How do you enable item info popup in chat box?

On one of my characters, when I hover over an item that's linked in the chatbox, there's a little popup that shows details about that item.

On my other character, I can't get this popup to show up, and I'm not sure why. I tried setting the chat settings to their defaults but the popup still won't show up.

Does anyone know what might be wrong and how I can fix it?

I believe that has to do with item tool tips or whatever it's called. Since it's on one character and not the other, that means it's in the character settings. I believe it's called 'display item help'. I'm not sure where it is in there exactly, but it's not in chat because those pop-ups come up anywhere you hover over an item or linked item.

Thanks guys, I found the settings, which are the correct ones, because I tested it on the character where the popups were already working, and when I turned if off, the popups stopped showing up, and turning them back on makes them show up again.

However, on the character where the popups aren't showing up, I actually already have "Display item help" checked on, and they still won't pop up on on that character. Should I bring this up with technical support, or is there something else in the settings that I'm missing?

That's really strange. If you set the position to "Fixed", then go to /hudlayout, does a placeholder appear for Item Help?

I set the position to "Fixed" and checked the HUD layout, there's a placeholder for Item Help,





but when I save all of that and hover over an item linked in the chat box, nothing still pops up anywhere on my screen.

Is the UI element for the tooltip hidden perhaps? In the UI layout editor make sure the name of the Item Help box isn't purple. If it is you'll have to unhide it by ctrl-right clicking on it. (I don't know the PS4 equivalent, sorry.)

P.S. you can show your image directly in your post instead of just a link by adding the [img] and [/img] tags around it, or highlighting the link and clicking on the picture button above where you're typing your post.

Maybe your tooltip is appearing but the transparency is set unusually high for some reason? Check this setting.

My transparency is set at 0 so unfortunately that's not the source of the problem.

I backed up my character config settings to my computer and reset my HUD to their default settings,



I'm not sure which setting that ended up changing but now the item popups work from the chat box like they should.

I'll have to redo all of my HUD settings but at least the popups are working. Thanks for all the help guys!

GUYS I FOUND IT!



It was the "Enable log window item linking" setting, when I turned it on, the Item Help dialog started showing up from the chat box again.
