My personal rule is that I keep the mentor crown on so that people can feel free to ask anything that I know the answer to and If i don't I'll direct them somewhere that might have more information regarding their question. In the 4+ years I've been playing this game and have had the Mentor Crown visible on my character I've never at any point acted negatively towards anyone no matter what they've asked and I've also never been a target. Yes I know, Anecdotal experiences are Anecdotal and all that. I just find it interesting with the amount of complaints targeted towards mentors that I would have experienced one by now.

Bear in mind, I'm in no way saying Bad Mentors Don't exist. I've seen a small handful personally that clearly only got mentor for personal gain and nothing more, but I have a feeling that a lot of the complaints towards mentors suffer from the "We don't have the whole story" effect or they are severely drummed up for dramatic effect/trolling. I mean to warrant as many threads as we get on this forum about terrible mentors, you would think it would be more of a visible plague that's infecting the entire player base.

There isn't any point to these threads besides playing a versus debate game which never stops. Both sides point fingers at each other, generalizations all over the place. Do I think the way they implemented the Mentor system was a mistake? Yes. The requirements are way, way to easy to acquire. Do I also think they should revamp the system to have much stricter requirements? Absolutely.
Unfortunately too many people think "mentor" means "expert in everything at all times, also the best player in the world." Often they tip their hand by demanding that savage clears get added to mentor requirements at which point it becomes clear that they really just want to make it an exclusive club for themselves to boast and tell sprouts to "git gud".
