Deary me, this again...
And everytime, it seems like the OP is just expecting too much out of a mentor. Yeah of course there are some bad mentors, but it's the same for literally anything else in life. You can have a bad gardener or a good one, you can have a bad teacher or a good one. Mentors are still people. And sometimes people are jerks. If they weren't mentors, they'd still be jerks. Because that's just how they are.
Also, judging by your posts on this very topic, your attitude, OP, dosen't seem all that friendly either...
Violets are blue
Look OP this crown
Looks better off you.
Bad apples on both sides mentor just get extra scrutiny due to having something shiny, i only talk in NN when questions are being asked, no advice until a wipe or i see something that is glaringly bad ie ice mages/no card ast/abysmal gear etc most often i get a ty for advice after that it is down to them to see it through, if i get the "you don't pay my sub" guess what you can queue again because das silent boot would be initiated no matter where we are in the instance and if it fails i leave not going to support i do not care attitudes.
Guy butt is best butt <3
I automatically assume every burger king crown has no clue what they're doing and everything works much better.

I've never seen someone have so many posts and delete them all in one thread. Impressive.

I love how predictable these forums have become over the years. You can always expect a Mentor bashing thread at least once a week. For as often as I've seen this topic come up you would think, at least on my end I would have been called out at some point considering I've been wearing the crown since i got it in late heavensward.
My personal rule is that I keep the mentor crown on so that people can feel free to ask anything that I know the answer to and If i don't I'll direct them somewhere that might have more information regarding their question. In the 4+ years I've been playing this game and have had the Mentor Crown visible on my character I've never at any point acted negatively towards anyone no matter what they've asked and I've also never been a target. Yes I know, Anecdotal experiences are Anecdotal and all that. I just find it interesting with the amount of complaints targeted towards mentors that I would have experienced one by now.
Bear in mind, I'm in no way saying Bad Mentors Don't exist. I've seen a small handful personally that clearly only got mentor for personal gain and nothing more, but I have a feeling that a lot of the complaints towards mentors suffer from the "We don't have the whole story" effect or they are severely drummed up for dramatic effect/trolling. I mean to warrant as many threads as we get on this forum about terrible mentors, you would think it would be more of a visible plague that's infecting the entire player base.
There isn't any point to these threads besides playing a versus debate game which never stops. Both sides point fingers at each other, generalizations all over the place. Do I think the way they implemented the Mentor system was a mistake? Yes. The requirements are way, way to easy to acquire. Do I also think they should revamp the system to have much stricter requirements? Absolutely.
Being a mentor really should have a steeper requirement then it does.
Maybe then I'd actually be able to get into the Novice Network at prime time with some semblance of reliability so I can actually mentor unlike 90% of the people in there.
