Like the op I just got my first crafting class to the 50s(weaver). I hit 53 and bought the whole left side save for the belt and it put my craftmanship stat to 341.

The level 53 class quest item Holy Rainbow Gloves HQ the interface recommends 519 craftsmanship. I was able to get the quality to 71% and was lucky that it was enough for HQ.

My question is how much should I be concerned about the recommended stat?

Gonna work on my other craft classes so I don't have to rely on the mb so much.

Well, for me... I never cared about recommended stats. I went for the "I do what I like" approach, but with the idea that "a challenge is a challenge", so I don't cry when I botch something.

To be fair, the recommended crafts/control cannot fully justify the difficulty of a craft, because CP and cross class skills are king... With enough CP and cross class skill, you are bound to overcome almost any difficulty. I once took on a naked challenge, and crafted HQ level 50 items with using just level 1 tools but with a huge amount of CP. So at the end of the day, stats recommendations are really just recommendations. That said, most new crafters do not have a good CP pool just yet, and most of them are not able to fully utilize their CP pool as well. So it comes down to a bit of experience, knowledge and skill to fully utilize what you have on hand. To get a better CP pool, look for gear on you that allows a lot of CP to be added (such as accessories, pants, belt and boots)... then please try to meld tier 1,2,3,4,5,6 Cunning Materia onto any of your gear to fill up the melding cap for CP. Tier 1-6 materia can be retrieved at 100% success rate. So you lose nothing when you change to another gear. I do not recommend overmelding (advanced materia melding) before reaching level 80, but just in-slot melds are awesome when leveling.

One thing you have to pay attention to, that is MORE critical than the recommended craft/control stats, is the RECIPE LEVEL. Keep in mind that if you craft anything below your own level, there is a penalty on the touches you do. So it's much harder to HQ anything. Master Recipes with 1 or more "stars" are basically recipes BEYOND the specified level... e.g. a level 60 Four Star recipe would be something similar to a level 64 recipe. So I will recommend NOT to take on that recipe if you're a level 60.... wait until level 64 or 65 to do it.

Craftsmanship suggestions only influence skills like Careful Synthesis. Control influences if you get quality to 100% or not. As Caimie pointed out, crafting something above your level will have much higher effect on both craftsmanship and control requirements. Once you get in to Master recipe stuff with stars, suggested becomes required and the 'required' won't be near enough because there is an invisible level curve.

In your case, 53 doing a 53 recipe the suggested Craftsmanship means a safe completion, leaving lots of opportunity to reach 100% quality. tl;dr you would have completed the durability in 1 less step with suggested, leaving you one more quality step for an inner quiet stack, you might have gotten 100% instead of 71%
