The Australian scene is a growing one actually.

FFXIV is getting more involved with us, as far events, advertising and recognition go, and we really should have a server by now.

Yoshi P made a personal video to our community here https://www.facebook.com/FFXIVanzGet...5992662847651/

The numbers on Kujata, Tonberry and the high amount scattered across US servers would justify it.

Yoshi made an updated statement where he thanked us for our support and would like to give us our own server but there's issues with our government or something.

    The details were scarce.

I just find it quite funny that a generation who, most likely I would imagine, were around South Park, Family Guy, Simpsons and other such shows before they were forced to censor and end up being to softest of the bunch. I mean if you are directly slinging profanity like a Machinist at someone then yeah, out the door ya go. However for a simple F bomb that was in the heat of the moment and not even directed at anyone, yeesh come on people. Grow some skin if your gonna be online.

True, but doesn’t mean I have to agree with it or like it. I do abide by it, I don’t type a bunch of profanity in game.

One can ignore an F-bomb in voice chat, but there is a level of calculation in a chat window, given the fact that you have to actually think before typing the words.
I blame this readiness to be rude on the anonymity engendered by people who have never known a world without the Internet.

To be clear, I didn't raise my millennial-generation sons to believe that the world revolves around them, nor do other parents that I know. You've apparently bought into the mythos of a marketing category that conveniently gives you a box to put down people whose views you don't appreciate.
You’ve misjudged me based on my comment apparently. I stated my opinion on the issue. Never said I go around using profanity, or what others consider to be profanity, in social settings just for the sake of making people feel uncomfortable. It’s not rude to exercise free speech by the way. My free speech doesn’t end because someone else doesn’t like the language I choose to use. Also, I agree with you on the idea of being culturally and socially competent, and with choosing to use tact when necessary. Also, never attacked your parenting style personally so I’m unsure why you’re offended by that, it’s not my intention to create an argument over parenting techniques and their effects.

I can understand if you accidentally swore when speaking, but typing has an extra layer of thinking about what you're converting from speech into text, and at least some degree of opportunity to reconsider and alter what you wrote before anyone else sees it.

If you know certain language is not allowed, can't you just restrict yourself from using it in chat, or substitute something less offensive-to-some?

(I don't ever swear even in real life - at least not in language that would be on the 'banned list' - so I honestly have no idea what it would be like having to tone down language in text chat. Is it hard? Really? Do you have to think about the fact that you shouldn't type that word in? I'm not asking this hypothetic-sarcastically.)

You can argue all day that you feel it's reasonable to cuss but the game owners obviously think otherwise and we have agreed to play by their rules.
I don’t think you can properly equate reason with being offended. People become offended for unreasonable reasons all the time. Also, just because some of us don’t want to put into a box doesn’t mean we are unreasonable. I for one, while completely disagreeing with any rules that put a limit on my ability to exercise free speech, do not go around cursing at people just because I can. I don’t think it’s fair to assume that just because people use words in their everyday language that someone else deems offensive, we can assume they are trolls looking to offend at every opportunity.

    Very hard actually.
In forums not so much but in live chats when stuff happens fast and you don't have much time, you essentially type as you would speak.
Add roused feelings to that and you will get rather ... fruity language quite often.

In forums I typically tend to write everything down, insults and all. That in itself consumes most of the negative energy and I can then go back and edit the text to be more presentable before hitting that send button. It's a neat trick I picked up from some other forum poster back at MMO-C.

That doesn't really work well in a 1 line chat interface when you type e.g.: between pulls etc, so you have to put more thought into the sentence from the very beginning.

Personally, I don't think the profanity filter is in there to actually neuter insults but to "protect" 12yr olds from mature language of other players so they can keep the age rating down. I deactivated it since day 1 because I am an adult. For me personally, it makes 0 difference between reading the word "idiot" in reference to my person or reading ♥♥♥♥♥ done by some funky filter. I know the person just insulted me either way.

Edit: before s/o gets the wrong picture and twists anything out of context: I have a 0 tolerance policy for insults in games. This is a hobby we all do for fun and there is no reason at all to be abusive to each other. I tend to be rather direct and not bother wrapping everything in layers of diplomacy though (mom calls me "as diplomatic as an ax in the forest").
