This Baby Boomer believes that there are a number of 'special snowflakes' who deem being polite in a social setting is not something they should strive for. Cussing like a sailor (which, having been one, is something I know intimately) in a game environment is just rude. One can ignore an F-bomb in voice chat, but there is a level of calculation in a chat window, given the fact that you have to actually think before typing the words.
I blame this readiness to be rude on the anonymity engendered by people who have never known a world without the Internet.

To be clear, I didn't raise my millennial-generation sons to believe that the world revolves around them, nor do other parents that I know. You've apparently bought into the mythos of a marketing category that conveniently gives you a box to put down people whose views you don't appreciate.

True, but doesn’t mean I have to agree with it or like it. I do abide by it, I don’t type a bunch of profanity in game.

You’ve misjudged me based on my comment apparently. I stated my opinion on the issue. Never said I go around using profanity, or what others consider to be profanity, in social settings just for the sake of making people feel uncomfortable. It’s not rude to exercise free speech by the way. My free speech doesn’t end because someone else doesn’t like the language I choose to use. Also, I agree with you on the idea of being culturally and socially competent, and with choosing to use tact when necessary. Also, never attacked your parenting style personally so I’m unsure why you’re offended by that, it’s not my intention to create an argument over parenting techniques and their effects.
