Every raid always had an explanation in FFXIV universe.

In Amaurot, some of the shade talked about autonomous being suggested and created.
To be honest, I think that all will be link with some kind of the "ancient human" civilization usine that survived the Apocalyspe and that is still working and producting automats.

It could be that it was a try to counter the Apocalypse with machines, and it will not be so different from Nier Automata plot.

The Amaurotines were working on mechanical soldiers to fight on their behalf in conflicts. Since we're told that there were multiple individuals involved, they probably could have poofed an entire city's worth into existence before Terminus. Not far to the west, the dwarves recently discovered a graveyard of machina of unknown origin and design, and the questline abruptly ends after we receive that information.

The parallels and likely entrance point are fairly obvious.

The most obvious possible place for Nier to cross over is on another shard.

There's still 6 others that we could end up on and anything could have happened there.

The Amaurot / Kholusia thing is, in my opinion, still the most likely candidate for leading into the YoRHa raids. The similarities are too apparent, and the dwarf quest has too much Yoko Taro-style humor to be a coincidence.

Could be something else, but those bits feel too much like setup to escape my notice...

The thing with the Dwarves is that they are listed as a Beast Tribe. So I would be very surprised if they were both a Beast Tribe Quest line and had something to do with the 24-man raids.

My money is still on something relating to the the darkest most terrible timeline G'raha saved us from... That has already set up a "Dark Apocalypse", just need to fandangle a means for us to go save it... It's been established that the living can't really make that journey, G'raha was only able to after "fusing" with Crystal Tower, but his friends in that timeline had to remain behind for that reason, but I'm sure we can just Echo-handwave our way out of that, and it also sets up a perfect justification for using android waifus; They're not "living" so they can travel the Rift through time and space. I expect a "Help the androids take back the world from whatever nightmares now plague it, and oops they're now also sentient because proximity to the Warrior of Light essentially made them auspices" kind of deal, likely with the remnants of Garlemald messing up again and creating some self-replicating mechanical menace... I'm sure such a thing is possible, given a bunch of misfits in a Tower were able to build their very own Alexander-in-a-box...

The Dwarf quest... It's another possibility, but it doesn't sit right with me... It's an odd set up and I'm not even sure where they can take a story with that... To be honest I just took it as a quirky side quest that maybe provides justification for why the Dwarfs have so many automatons, including a huge FATE boss; They found a robot graveyard with plenty of spare parts. Perhaps a tie in with the eventual Daily Quests. I don't know, the whole cross-over sits at odds with me to begin with, just randomly plopping it in the middle of Kholusia seems too jarring. Safely tucked away in an alternate timeline? Sits better with me. I guess it also helps that I also just really want to see more of that dark timeline...

For Amaurot... Honestly I don't think too much about it at this point... We've seen plenty of automatons through the story from ancient civilizations, so much so that the idea isn't even remotely new... I took that particular line to be more of a "This was the inception for automatons" to highlight just how very ancient they were. This was a new idea to Amaurot, where as if someone in Ul'dah said the same thing? I'd likely reply "Oh like the Allagan did" while pointing at Omni and his ilk. Could still be the tie in, but... They'd have been made so monumentally long ago... How would that set up any kind of 24 man Raid level threat to deal with? What mystery does it set up? "Here are some really old androids /shrug", that's about it.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards a trip to the darkest time line, either that or something just completely out of the left field, like a surprise trip to Meracydia to deal with more Allagan kupo-ckery.

My bet is it will be related to the Tartarus the Empire found in the Ridorana Lighthouse when the Ivalice raids ended.

Other dimensions aren't out of the question, but we can't use the Crystal Tower to traverse the Rift since not only was G'raha the only one capable of using it in the capacity he did (and it required his partial fusion with the tower), we broke the mechanism used to control the spacetime warp functions of it.

I'll be very disappointed if they link it to the Ivalice raids. While there is an obvious hop-on point, I was hoping they'd be relatively finished with the references after an adaptation of Ivalice was grafted on with its own dedicated raid series and the Ascians' history has started to show more than Ivalice references to it.

Anyway. The setup in Kholusia is perfect - extremely vague, with a hint of Yoko Taro's humor (e.g. "Your neck muscles must be strong from nodding so much!"); Kholusia's relative proximity to the Tempest (ancient Amaurot) just throws fuel into the idea. Then there's the fact that the automatons the Amaurotine was designing were supposed to be "emotionless" (one of the key points in Automata was just how emotional the YoRHa units were despite their claims of being emotionless) and that they would "fight to the death" if ordered (much like YoRHa units do).

While there are only vagaries at the moment, there are hints... where this will go, if anywhere, I couldn't say, but that's kind of the fun of it... it's a mystery...
