Should HUD Add-Ons Be Allowed By Square Enix?

We know damage meters are not allowed by S.E. Even though the devs tend to look the other way, using damage meters is a bannable offense.

But, should S.E. allow add-ons which allow players to customize their HUDs more than the options offered by FFXIV? Personally, I think so.

While the in-game options are quite good, I yearn for some of the options provided by add-ons used in WoW. For example, I find outlining the ability slots with black helps me quite a bit.

What do you think? Also, what non-damage add-ons do you wish the developers would allow?

Not until they find a way to make them work on consoles and even the playing field.
Rearranging information to your taste can be a powerful thing and I'd rather not have the playerbase divided.

I say this as an ex WoW player that also dearly misses weak auras and the ability to shape the UI to my liking.
    Esp proper DoT timers. >.<

I think any kind of add-ons would open the door to players potentially having an advantage over other players. In a game like this, I would rather SE come up with their own add-ons so that every player would have equal access to them.

That being said: I would like a weather forecast add-on, a locator for hunt monsters, and a meter that lets me know when a lalafell is getting closer to me so that I can go the other way because I'm allergic to potatoes ;P

I wish we had addons. I miss putting buff information anywhere on my screen(weakauras) or separate keybindings for each job. I also used to be able to try on any gear with any race regardless if I had it or not(mogit) and that would make using fantasia potions less of a hassle.

Improved macros would be nice too because I used to always heal with mouseover macros in wow and I haven't touched healing since I moved to ff14.

Made an alt to redo the MSQ and accidentally found a command that separated the Buffs/Debuffs line into their own separate moveable windows with the ability to change them from 1x10 to 2x5 etc, and sort them based on priority and emphasizing your own buffs over those given from outside.

Given how many damn buffs I get assaulted with when in a party with an AST and DNC as a MNK … I really need to do a deep dive and see how effective those settings can get.

Something I truly wish they'd do was allow skill queueing on Macros that don't try to cast multiple skills at once. Or at a minimum, Macros that affect specific targets (Such as a MouseOver or <tt> line).
I found DPSing as a Healer to be absolute nightmare of tabbing around and clicking back into party members so I made Broil/Malefic/Glare into simple "/ac "Broil" <tt>". Switching between DPS and Healing is so incredibly comfortable with them behaving like that by allowing me to never need to manually target an Enemy.
I have an issue on my Monk in that I cannot for the life of me get a comfortable bind setup for the 6 core weaponskills (And I've been playing Monk since ARR >_>) so I ended up macroing Twin Snakes and Demolish into one key and Snap Punch + True Strike into another.
I'm well aware of the DPS loss I incur for this, But E123 in varying orders is so incredibly comfortable as opposed to having an extra 2 buttons. I'm aware this is a personal 'failing' of mine, but it doesn't stop me wanting SE to not punish me for choosing to make my rotational layout more comfortable. For those curious, I do have those skills on separate keys I use specifically during Perfect Balance, but since I don't often have to press them, they're not an issue for me sitting there on weird binds.

Please share! I feel a lot of players could use this.

    Open your HuD Layout.
Select your buff bar and hit the cog icon on the right of the dropdown box listing the Currently Selected UI Element.
In that new window, check the box marked [Split Element into 3 Groups]. https://gyazo.com/fac8eec576f5d95fa6abd34d0be43b5d
Then just adjust the settings for each group by scrolling the window down. Then when you save it and return to the main menu, you'll see new Status Info boxes, which you can move somewhere handy.

The most useful setting IMO, is [Display others Enhancements in Group 3]. This makes only your own buffs appear in the normal buff window and all buffs applied externally appear in another window.
This shot will show you what I mean. https://gyazo.com/306be0ec2ab175ea05e33b8e817683fb
On my left, you can see [Status Info: Enhancements], which is my own buffs. The box to its left, [Status Info: Others] will show externally applied buffs only and my debuffs are down next to my parameter bar as [Status Info: Enfeeblements]

    Hope it helps.

As much as I've loved my mods in other MMOs, I'd prefer they just improve the base UI and its official customization choices.

Edit: On the other hand, as long as we can in fact limit the APIs offered to just those relevant to UI without running afoul of mod-dependent gameplay, sure, why not.

We're almost 6 years into this game and we barely have any options. They don't have the manpower to natively implement and maintain the stuff modders would add. The whole point of modding is so the community can help the devs with this stuff.
