Instead, they're made to look bad in front of everybody.
    I completely agree and I can appreciate now your perspective. I apologize for my initial dismissive comment. I thought it was just another attack and became ignorant to you trying to give light to all facts from your experience. Seriously, sorry and thank you for taking the time to do so

    When must you get permission from everyone involved before recording?

    Eleven states require the consent of every party to a phone call or conversation in order to make the recording lawful. These "two-party consent" laws have been adopted in California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Washington. (Notes: (1) Illinois' two-party consent statute was held unconstitutional in 2014; (2) Hawai'i is in general a one-party state, but requires two-party consent if the recording device is installed in a private place;


    Now, in practice, most companies WILL let you know you're being recorded (this is largely due to an overwhelming number of tech based companies AND every major CS/mod company being based out of California), but theres no requirement if they're in a 1 party state as long as the agent knows they are being recorded.

    In what may be one of the most absurd things, I was the VP of research for a company based out of Colorado, while living here in Texas, with our business license in Pennsylvania.

    While neither the state of the company NOR the state of residence required a message be played before calling our trunk line or my line off of that, being registered in PA means we DID need to or we could lose our license there.

    Theres a lot of businesses that will just tell you upfront that everything may be monitored simply as a CYA policy.

    For the OP:

    While I sympathize, the person you talked to most likely had 0 ability to help you and most likely needed info from you to get to someone who could help you.

    I'm not entirely sure Squeenix handles it's own payment processing, and even if they DO, these kinds of situations will require a turnaround time before someone could get you the correct info.


    IF they didnt ask for that info, I would be pissed, but you have to give them the chance to do their job.

    Wow, you sound like you expect them to lick the ground you walk on lol.
    SE support do not ever have to agree with you on anything, and its quite possible that as a japanese company they have other rules then western companies, such as "the customer isnt always right" and possibly the low-level person you talk to first actually has the right to have a say in what your rights are.
    All i know is, if you talked to them the way you make it sound, i would not be inclined to help you cause you come off as rude and bitchy.

    My advice: Don't pay your sub via direct debit. False fraud alarms at banks can be easily triggered, and it takes only one chargeback you didn't even initiate yourself to get your account locked down and have you go through a lot of trouble. Buy gametimecards, pay with steam wallet or paysafe card, basically anything where you can be 100% sure that the transaction is complete and final and cannot be disputed by any 3rd party.
