Match intro movie with where you are in the game

    Hi all,

I have checked for further topics related to this and was unable to find anything similar, so please let me know if there is already another topic or this has been discussed on the past.

So I am currently on stormblood and since I have purchased shadowbringers, my intro movie and intro screen displays the shadowbringers expansion and intro movie.

Off course this gives me some spoilers if I were to watch the movie based on where I am.

My suggestion would be to match the expansion you are with the intro screen and the intro movie, as to avoid spoilers and to welcome you to where you currently stand in the game.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and hope it helps in improving the experience for some players as it would for me.

If it helps, a lot of Shadowbringers' trailer is deliberately ambiguous or misleading.

Still better not to watch it until you get there, though.

Indeed, ignore most of SHB's opening movie, much of what is shown doesn't actually have any actual bearing to what happens during the expansion or before (and the reasons why become apparent during SHB), and what that is shown does happen... isn't even that true to how the game depicted it - it was mostly for coolness and to fanservice reference the game's origins (given the Crystarium's design is meant to emulate the area shown in the very earliest tech demo for FFXIV version 1.0 called 'Rapture').

Really, the only opening movie that was a big spoiler was Heavensward's when that expansion was launched to those who hadn't yet finished ARR's storyline, as it showed (in a slightly altered way), the events that occurred at the end of ARR, not to mention something that was still to come at the time (the Dravanian Horde's final attack on Ishgard) which did not even occur in-game story wise til patch 3.3. Nowadays that isn't an issue anymore, but back then a lot of players were disappointed that such a cliffhanger ending was spoiled for them (the trailer version of it shown on Youtube before HW launched even had a spoiler disclaimer at the start).

So as Iscah above said, take what the opening movies show with a grain of salt, they're just to look cool and are not accurate representations of events you actually experience playing through the story as your character.
