Sure, you may need seals *just as much* as someone else needs gear. That's reasonable.

HOWEVER, when you're rolling need when they cannot, you are suggesting that you need seals MORE than they need gear.

If you do that, it's rude, and you'll always be a baddie in my book. Period.

Don't get me wrong, that's not the type of thing I'll say anything in group about...I just immediately start doing the exact same thing you did (and normally I'm the healer or tank so NOBODY can roll against me)...and if I was going to commend you...commend someone else instead...because I don't commend rude people.

That's OK, I have like 3700 commendations. Could be needing it for glamour too, which as we all know is the true endgame. The game throws gear at you. If you need a specific piece, ask for it in chat, more than happy to pass. Otherwise, it's a free for all, and I'm gonna need on stuff.

See if any of these minions are on your MB and maybe do the FATEs, get them and sell?

They're not quite the same thing but the fates Clearing the Hive, Attack on Highbridge Act III, and one of the three fates over at Poor Maid's Mill in Upper La Noscea reward an npc in the respective area that sells items in those areas until the fate spawns and is then lost, which sell minions you can only get from them.

They're the Baby Raptor sold by the Boughbury Trader for Clearing the Hive

The Tiny Rat sold by Chachamun for Attack on Highbridge Act III

And the Baby Bat, sold by Junkmonger Nonoroon for clearing either Poor Maid's Mishap, Poor Maid's Mess, or Poor Maid's Misfortune. Doesn't seem to be a clear answer which, or it might just be any of the three. It does take him a while after the correct fate is over to show up, he slowly waddles in from outside the area iirc to take up his spot near one of the houses.

As far as I'm aware there aren't any other fates that reward npc shop spawns, which make them sort of unique.

    Sell your body for gil.
    There's probably some brothels around.

Other then that play the MB, run group maps, adventurer in need duties, mix of gathering/crafting and retainer items. and/or you could also solo old content dungeons for certain minions that sell high.

Depends how much time you want to invest and what you want to get? Do you want to reach the gil cap? That's gonna take several months of hardcore gathering & crafting. In SB I became friends with a person and he was at the gil cap. But it turned out that he was already a hardcore player since the original Final Fantasy XIV, when A Realm Reborn came out he focused mainly on gathering and crafting. Also worth noting is that he played no other game and he had a lot of time to play every day.
Eventually after some years he got up all the way to the gil cap.
I've lost contact with this person for almost 3 years now but last time I remember he was still not buying anything and just make stuff himself and just sit with that max gil.

You should think on what you want to buy with it and how much time you want to put into it. But imo reaching the gil cap is just a waste of time. Personally I found 100mil gil more then enough.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

I trust all you people who 'need' on gear announce that you're doing so, right? So that players who don't have that....erm....'mindset' are aware that rolling greed like a massive number of people is, you know, guaranteed to lose?

    Or is that conveniently overlooked?

I'm sure they do. As you can tell by their responses to me here, they're the friendliest people on the planet and they would never fail to consider the impact of their actions upon others. /s
