At least in low level story dungeons. It's getting old.

I've been doing the main story as a healer, to avoid queue's, and I can think of at least 5 times off the top of my head where 1 DPS started harassing a sprout DPS over the dumb meter. These are like 40's normal story dungeons; never had any issues clearing them. It's stupid, and I actually want to defend the newbie, but I play on PS4 so it's almost impossible to actually converse in chat AND do your job. I usually just give the new player a commendation at the end, since it might make them feel better about it.

Of course, since I'm a diva, the last straw before I came here to whine on the forums about it was when it happened to me. I decided to queue as a Samurai for my first run of a story dungeon, and at the first boss I died to a mechanic. Unfortunate, but hey, that's why everyone gets a bonus for running with my newbie ass. Of course after the fight, right on queue, the other DPS goes off when his meter tells him I did less DPS than the healer; apparently he was so focused on the meter he didn't realize I died. Actually explaining it to him in chat wasn't an option (again, PS4), so I basically got to listen to crap about how I must've bought my character right up until the next boss, where my damage was fine; which eventually shut him up.

Anyways, garbage communities and things like damage meters just don't mix well. I understand them for personal use and progression stuff, but any mention of your dumb little meters in a random MSQ dungeon should be bannable.

Running a meter is tolerated as long as it's used for yourself only and not against someone ingame.

Oh wow, I didn't know this. I did a Ravel run last week as a Tank and we had trouble clearing the second boss because the DPS (a BLM and RDM) wasn't all that good. It took forever to clear the bosses that run as well as the normal pulls. I guess the healer was using some kind of parser because he mentioned that I was doing around the same amount or more as the DPS jobs were and gave the amounts. Granted, he didn't come off as malicious in any way. He just kind of said, you all need better gear, you should be doing a lot more damage.

Unfortunately even mentioning numbers in any context, or implying you're using a parser is enough to be reported and temp-suspended. An FC mate's friend got suspended because after a trial, someone asked if they could be told their own numbers and the friend said they'd send a tell. Just that was enough for someone to decide to report.

There's people out there with good intentions, but it remains against the rules strictly speaking.
I've love to point out people that they are not performing as well as they think they are, heck I'm conscious about my performance as well these days to make sure I'm playing at least at a decent enough level.
But the ToS is clear : you cannot use this against people.


And I understand the reasoning. It prevents more drama, and that means we have to deal with bad players now and then

That's something you can tell just by how slow a fight is going and using examine, no need for a parser. Unless they mentioned a number or parser specifically there is no point reporting.

I had no idea that this was the case, but as a WoW refugee, I cannot tell you how happy I am to see this. I always used damage meters to help me improve my own game, but I always hated when others would post numbers to belittle everyone else or to emphasize how over-geared they were for the content we were running. If no one is dying, I don't see how criticism of any sort is merited. Well-designed fights have much more to them than sheer DPS anyway.
