Housing item idea: memorial stone

I know I'm not the first person to suggest anything even remotely close to this, but I feel like now that we have a text-interactive item type like message books, the least we could have is something like a memorial stone that would allow a player to put a small amount of text in to honor someone or something in a more direct and personal way.

I also say a memorial "stone" just because it's probably the easiest means of having something like a grave marker, but also something that could be used indoors if it was made as an indoor item as well. It might not be something ornate or fancy like a statue or something along those lines, but just a rock with maybe some visualized writing on it would allow for the most minimal design required. Heck, there could even be some kind of story factor involved (like a beast tribe element) to explain why it is what it is.

A lot of us players have lost someone who we either met through the game or played the game with. I believe that having a simple item like a memorial stone would be a great way of not only allowing us to honor their memory, but also to allow others to see why we do so and hopefully honor them as well.

It's a heartfelt sentiment, but there would be so much room for abuse. Like putting a different player's name on the tombstone as a veiled threat or possible insult if they put in a comical cause of death. I just don't see this player-base giving memorial stones the same decorum and gravitas as an actual cemetery.

Maybe the Devs could add a monument in the game for all the players who have actually passed away and have the devs inscribe the names instead of having it as a housing item under player control.

Just report whoever is doing it as an insult or a threat and move on. Also really important to note that the majority of the playerbase isn't as disgusting as you make us sound in the post.

As for devs adding a monument like you suggest, how would they know what names to put down on that monument? What if they get a troll name, or a name of someone still living as a joke and put it on that monument? That'd turn a touching gesture into a legal crisis pretty quick. It'd be a lot easier for devs to let players do their own memorial, which would free them of legal liability and players and GMs would be able to handle things if they got bad.

I too agree that this could be abused and it is a difference if people harrass you with emote spam or put up a tombstone with your name on it. I don't think it would fullfill ist purpose.

For a memorial made by SE themself ... it is a lot of work. Not the memorial itself but adding character names of people who actually died. They would need to update it regularly and make sure the people are actually dead (sending in death certificates). I know there are people who played this game with all their heart and passed away after losing a long fight to a devastating sickness. But I also know a Person, personally, who faked their own death to get sympathies and attention. It is hard to verfiy and I can imagine that families have other things on their mind than sending a death certificate to SE when their loved ones pass just to have their character name mentioned in a virtual game.

Personally I would love to have the opportunity to add screenshots to the picture Frames. So you could add pictures of your friends in your home and in case of a misfortunate event you could make a small memorial yourself with their character picture.

TBH though, if I saw my name on one of those stones, I'd find it funny since they actually spent the effort and wasted their time and maybe a furnishing spot just to make a jab at me. If it's more like a threat, I'll just report them and move on with my life knowing that not everyone in this game is that bad.

I use a couple of those, but I don't feel like that's enough since I have to keep explaining it to everyone that goes into my house.
