Noob Tank In Need of Advice Please

I’ll keep this short. I’m a level 45 Paladin still playing ARR. With “flash” being removed from my action list, I’m struggling to keep aggro in dungeons. I’d normally shield lob-flash-fast blade-riot blade-etc... Should I be using “Iron Will” to pull the enemies instead of “Flash” now? Also, how do I know that my tank stance is active? I never see the icon with the bar that fills up after attacks. Thanks for any help or advice!

The stance is either on or off. It appears as a buff that looks like your icon. The stance ui element went away because they streamlined the stance.
As far as the move, I usually throw Shield Lob to start the fight, and when I get near, start to use the Total Eclipse AoE to pull the aggro form the surrounding mobs. Then I throw out Shield Lob to pull other mobs that stray away as needed.

I'm still a fairly new tank, so may not be the best approach, but it does work, so...

With the changes from the new expansion, there is no reason not to have “Iron Will” turned on. It gives you a huge enmity boost with no downside. Make sure you have it turned on at the start of the dungeon.

Flash was also taken away because there is no need for it anymore. Total Eclipse -> Prominence combo spam on big pulls will safely hold threat on on everything. There’s not much more to worry about at your level except for using your defensive cooldowns wisely.

I leave Iron Will off in situations where I'm basically supplementing DPS, and turn it on when I need to take over tank and/or sub-tank. Reduces me accidentally getting the primary aggro.

The only time you need to turn off tank stance is if you are OT in an 8-man. Literally no other reason to ever have it off. Ever.

I believe the oath gauge won't start filling until you unlock Sheltron, but could be wrong I haven't had to level pld in a while.

Even in those situations, it doesn’t hurt to have it on. Keep an eye on the threat meter and use shirk on the MT if necessary. You want to have a solid lead on third place so the boss doesn’t go crazy for a second if something happens to the MT. There are also mechanics on some fights where the person who is second on threat will get hit with an ability, as it’s assumed to be the offtank. You never want to let a DPS be second on threat, which can happen easily if you don’t have tank stance turned on.

    Always have Iron Will on...

Flash does not exist anymore yes... But Total Eclipse and Prominence is there to act like flash. I recommend to not shield lob anymore. If you must, please use Circle of Scorn right after. However after that, your CoS is on cooldown, yes? This is when you face pull the mobs and just swing your Total Eclipse every freaking where you go like you just dont careeeeeeee.

No seriously, just run up to the mobs now and use TE and Prom. Thats what I do. Kinda like when WAR's go up to mobs to use Overpower. :>

Thank you all for the advice. I can’t wait to try this out when I get home. I do have one last question about the “Iron Will” action though. Do I only need to click it once at the beginning of the dungeon for it to remain active throughout or do I need to keep clicking it as it refills? Thanks again because I have looked all over for this info and have found nothing.

Turn it on and it stays on until you either switch jobs or get level sync'd in a dungeon.

The only time I have my tank stance off is when I am not MT in alliance raid
This tank stance change I would say is such a nice touch, it will no longer reduce your dps. Before this change it is very easy to take away the aggro in alliance raid just by doing my dps rotation, now there is zero excuse not to turn it on when tanking
