Cold-boot system freeze

My issue happens intermittently.

I boot up my computer. Start FFXIV. a few minutes after logging in, my whole system freezes.
I haven't had it happen before getting into the game with my selected character.

I hold the power button on my computer to shut off. Then turn it back on. And the issue is gone.

It only seems to happen if I'm running the game after starting my computer up from a proper shutdown.

Usually not. Generally the whole system freezes and there's nothing I can do except manually shut down. Sometimes, but not the norm, I'll get a fatal directx error. But after that, I don't have to reboot, but just restart the game and it runs fine.

Also can happen if my computer has been sitting in sleep mode for awhile.

Cold boot problems are usually caused by old and faulty power supplies. It also could be that the motherboard is damaged. I would test it with an other power supply.

Could indeed be from a faulty contact that is fixed when the system heats up. Does the same freezing happens when you just leave the pc idle after booting, using a browser or another game?

Doesn't happen during idling. Haven't played any other games since the problem arose. But thanks a lot for the ideas. That may be it

oraiatoxotis, do you experience any crashes when the computer is done starting up? Try waiting until the start up process is done and all programs on the PC have been loaded.
