Is a SpS Blm focus actually ok? O.o

Heya, so I was just wondering, was looking at the Blm resource section on Balance discord and noticed a SpS/min Crit build for Blm and was curious if this is really a worthwhile thing since I do love me some SpS, but with the whole Crit > DH that almost every job uses, I dunno how good it would be? Haven't really played Blm since ARR and now getting around to leveling it up to 80 and have been oddly enjoying it so far lol, so figured I'd ask this as a preemptive in case I decide to use Blm more often.

Spell speed was good up to a specific number, then you went the more conventional route for the rest of your melds. IIRC, the spell speed breakpoint in SB boiled down to what level of spell speed do you need to squeeze an extra Fire IV into an astral fire phase. Don't ask me what the current breakpoint for this is or even if it the cast time reduction works out to still allow squeezing in another cast, however, since I couldn't tell you.

Yes. The Potency for Fire IV with the Astral Fire 3 modifier is just so huge that there’s more benefit to casting more of them over a fight’s duration than there is in critting on any number of them.

The main issue with Spellspeed is that in movement heavy moments, you're getting less 'movement' per spellcast. You have to be on your game with your movement as any dead time punishes spellspeed harder than it does crit builds.

How much you get off of Swift/Triple/Procs is worse, but doesn't it become easier to slide-cast at higher SplSpd? At least it felt that way to me.

It's less that it is easier to slidecast, and more that you have slidecast windows arrive more frequently.

I have been told I want my spell speed around 2100 followed by direct hit, crit then determination. Please correct me if I’m wrong, I am still learning. Does anyone know what numbers we should be shooting for?

Honestly blm is a rare type of job where you can just stack any of the stats, and the outcome will at most differ 0.5%.

That aside, the high sps low crit is really good. Imo higher sps makes it easier to play, as well as having good dps scaling. The only reason sps had a cap in stormblood is because we needed foul after b3. Now that b4 is free, this is no longer an issue.

The thing with Spell Speed is that it just makes playing greedy easier/safer, for example on ES3 you have those puddles that will give you a (very brutal) DoT if you stay on them, Spell Speed is the difference between being able to finish a cast there or dying, so as long as the stat give as much dps as the other stats, it'll likely be the superior choice on real fight scenarios.

This should be /thread. It really doesn't matter what stats you go after or meld, the difference is so minute for BLM. Do whatever you're comfortable with, you're really not doing anything wrong no matter what you choose.
