What things did you used to dislike or were annoyed by, but have since warmed up to?

Example: I used to dislike FATEs because they an open-world mechanic with which developers were satisfied with and would stop at, but as FATE trains have fallen out of favor I have since taken a liking to them for their change of pace from dungeon grinding.

God I wish I could edit titles. Post ticket failed the first time, and I didn't realize until after that the correction had been lost when I reposted it. Alas...

    The glamour dresser.

On my main character, it really felt awkward and weird to use. I change my glamours so frequently and it felt so limited by only having 10 plates that I didn't even bother for the longest time.

But I discovered that it's a powerful tool for my RP alts, because they only have one or two jobs each (usually SCH/SMN but occasionally something else) and only a handful of set outfits.

Now with 15 plates and 400 spots, its much nicer on my main and I do take advantage of it, but I stuck with the old way of glams for about six months after the dresser came out.

I hated the forced multiplayer content when I first joined and very nearly quit due to back to back 45+ minute wait times for the first three dungeons. Keep in mind that up until that point I had only really played MMO's that encouraged solo content as much as group content, so the thought of being forced to wait on other people simply to progress was a hard pill to swallow. Doubly so due to the long wait I had as a DPS which just soured my initial opinion ever further.

Now? Now I'm actually kinda grateful this games makes me group up with other people to experience the story and unlock various other aspects. I've met some really precious friends through just doing content and I'm not entirely sure a purely solo MMO could satisfy me anymore.

When I first picked this game up a few years back I lost interest pretty quick, even being a FF fan. I think this was mostly due to my limited experience with MMOs. I disliked a whole lot of things. Since coming back a few months ago however, I really do appreciate the ease of group content. PF is awesome, GF can be awesome and a pain but... I think some of the QoL changes FF14 has had, plus my experiences with other MMOs have just led me to have a greater appreciation for this game.

    Alphinaud.

..... wait, was this just about game mechanics? Because my character thought Alphinaud was just the whiniest, most pretentious little **** for the longest time, but after the events of HW and having him constantly hanging around for so long, she kinda got attached in a li'l brother sorta way...

Nope, as long as we can understandably call Alphinaud a "thing" in the past, I guess he's topic-relevant.

    Tanking.

I originally only leveled Dark Knight on an alt because I wanted to make the edgelord of my dreams for glamour purposes, but I grew to really like the role. Tanks are the only time I play melee jobs. I still hardly play it though because I much prefer being the healer, but it's a nice change of pace when I'm feeling confident enough to do it. And looking so sexy while I do it!

The FFVII and XV mounts (Fenrir SDS and the Regalia-Type G). I campaigned long and hard why these two mounts did not fit FFXIV's setting and story and how I did not want to see them in FFXIV.... but now.... can't win 'em, join 'em.

The Regalia especially is great for finally having a four-seated mount, and it's just fun being able to cruise around Eorzea in (it's a pity when underwater the canopy does not extend over it turning it into a submarine of sorts though). I also wish the music was different (A Quick Pit Stop just doesn't fit as a mount theme), as it gets so grating.

It's also led to a reoccuring joke in my FC where I have some friends and family in the Regalia, and we start cruising around Costa del Sol.... only for Enki to not watch where she was going and promptly drives off the edge of the pier.

Either way, I've definetely warmed up to them. :3

Eureka. Went all the way and did BA because I really liked the Ozma mount, but the open world really grew on me. Avoiding high level monsters and doing NMs with 50+ people was kinda fun. Too bad it's dead now.

That was the same experience for me but I guess that's because SWTOR spoiled me. Well that and some others. Typically the mmos I play, when it comes to the msq, they tailor it for the solo experience but everything else is multiplayer. Plus, usually when you reach a certain level, it unlocks whatever content that can be done for that level, regardless of where you are in msq. So FF14's msq gating was not as much as a problem for me initially as when you finally find yourself forced to wait for a party to clear the content. It made me think "huh, these devs are pretty confident in their playerbase numbers" (I didn't know about the party matchup algorithm back then).

Nowadays, I'm mostly indifferent. In fact, Shb is probably the only expansion where, without spoling anything, makes waiting for a party sort of feel relevant at one point so kudos the FF14 dev team for that. If it was up to me--and considering how very little multiplayer activities there are in the game outside of dgns--I would still make msq dgns soloable for first time clearing. Guess I got my wish sort of half granted with the trust system (which I definitely used for shb right up till the end), just from the perspective of wanting to get through a story as seamlessly as possible.

Also, completely unrelated from above, I've warmed up to hunts. I don't know when it happened but I just stopped disliking them for some reason. Now, some might think I disliked hunts for conventional reasons like not getting in time for one or something near similar to that. Nope, not even the least. Simply disliked them for twofold reasons: 1) There's no "build-up". I'm aware this is a mmorpg so obviously, you can't really sink so much resources to what makes a typical hunt in single player game like: talking to various npcs to collect information on it, setting up the environment with baits and traps and then cornering and defeating it. There is the "waiting" for it part however, in the form of timers but other than that, it's lacking in substance which brings me to my 2nd reason: They're too simplistic. Not just in the combat but post combat too: no trophy (unless you count titles for hunting S ranks), no using up carcass materials from your hunt to make something out of it. Not even like a sidequest that unlocks once you hunt each of the S or A ranks from a specific area to face off against the motherlode of all hunts for that area.

I guess the TL;DR of that above paragraph is that single player rpgs that have the equivalent of hunts have raised my expectations of hunts in this game waaay to damn high and only recently have I finally stopped putting that content on high pedestal and decided to lower it reaaaaal low.
