Saving the Void? (Time travel) - future expansion idea?

So we’ve got Dr. Exarch and the Crystal Tardis... er... or something... and a slowly growing list of heroes from the 13th spread around...

Do I smell a possible plot for 7.0 or later?

Travel through time to rescue the void, or at least unwind and hit play to bring it back. As in... imagine that time travel isn’t actually going to the past, but like rewinding a tape and hitting play to relive things again from a certain point... in this scenario that the 13th was destroyed and this made the void effecting other worlds would still remain, but it’s then just... brought back by going there and rewinding that dimension to a point just before it was too late.

There are two slight issues with further time travel as we currently understand it, both raised in the Twinning:

    1. We apparently smashed the core mechanism for the Tower's time-travel abilities, and it exploded.

    2. The post-dungeon recorded message indicates that only G'raha could survive the trip due to his bond with the tower, and nobody else could go with him.

So while it doesn't actually rule out further time travel, we don't currently have a time machine ready to take us wherever we want to go.

Also, changing the past gets even messier than changing the future - if we unwind time and make it so there was never a void, what happens to our history - to every voidsent we've ever encountered, and the entire Fifth Astral Era?

We would be creating a split in history so huge that it predates us by thousands of years.

Additionally, the Eden raids seem to be dealing with the Thirteenth in some way.

The problem with time-traveling to save the Void is that it begs the question of why don't we time travel to stop the rest of the Rejoinings. Which would end up undoing the entire history of Source pretty much.

The 13th Shard was Flooded with Darkness before the 1st Calamity/Rejoining ever happened. It was the first time the Ascians tried to Rejoin a Shard and it went wrong since they pushed too fast on the 13th Shard. It was only after the 13th Shard became the Void that they figured out how to Rejoin Shards without causing them to be Flooded.

So if the Void ever gets fixed, I doubt time-travel will have something to do with it. As it is, the Void has the fundamental problem of not having any aether. The first hurdle that would have to be overcome would be somehow getting the 13th Shard to have it's own aether cycle again and at the moment... we've yet to find a way of creating aether out of nothing. Quite the opposite in fact...

Since there must always be that conceit that we must have access at all times, our homes and our retainers, then I find it unlikely that time travel will be used. From a meta perspective, we must always exist in the present or the players will complain about the housing demolition timer or whatnot. And if you go back in time and remove the void...then what happens to all the dungeons that already have voidsent? We would be destroying the present timeline, which is where our houses and retainers are, which just wouldn't fly with the player community. This game is just not optimized to handle a time travel story, unless they use the predestination paradox, in which case, nothing gets changed and the story doesn't move forward.

... or you could just, theoretically, use Eden's Light-elemental power to slow down and decompress the Void in the present day, and bit by bit reconstruct it into a proper world...

    Just sayin'!

This is likely where the story for Eden will go, with the finale of being used to repair the Void.

I got the feeling from finishing ALL the role quests we'll be going to the 13th next. Perhaps a side stop along the way because plot reasons, but i feel the 13th is going to be a destination.
Eden could possibly play a big role in it, given the dragon's pet knight.

The irony is, we already have been to the Void - it's the World of Darkness.

Travelling to it again to rebuild it is possible, but then why would we do that? It's a completely dead world populated only by monsters (and two Allagan clones) - so recreating it as a 'new' world it would only serve to play into the Ascians' hands as that is what they want to happen. No, I think it's going to stay dead and gone I'm afraid.

Eden's power of changing the polarity of aether requires there to be aether in a world to begin with. Which on the 1st Shard, there is. The Void has no aether for Eden to change the polarity of in the first place.

Is anyone can point me to a reliable description of the Void? I'm absolutely not certain there's no aether left. I know the 1st lore book hints at the voidsent to be hold denizen of the 13th. It also hints to the use of auracite and corruption the crystal can brought (further confirmed by the Ivalice story arc). I'm under the impression the entirety of the aether's shard is hoarded by the voidsents. I know the popular belief is the whole shard has been carved out/destroyed, but I haven't seen a satisfying explanation in game or in official material.

I know voidsents are feeding on eater like they're starving, but if they were so low/poor on aether, the Mach civilization wouldn't really be able to power their whole city with captured voidsents, right?
