I've discovered a missing niche in beast tribes.

There's every possible combination of combat and quests required by the tribes.
    There's fishing, gathering, and crafting.
    There's HQ crafting.

What if the new beast tribe required you to turn in COLLECTABLE levels of items they have you make?

I've reached level 60 crafting without ever making a collectable, it's never been required for me. Adept level items where just as easily gotten from carved kupo nuts, yellow script is just as easily gotten from the Grand Company Squadrons.

It used to be an important mechanic, you used to need them to properly interface with the engame. Now they don't seem to mean as much, so maybe one of the beast tribes of the first should really really care about collectables? I would have expected the Kojin to want collectables, but they are just another combat tribe.

As a side note, could somebody tell me a bit about what it was like in the days when collectables mattered, what it was needed for, what you did with them?

Well, come again about it when you hit the actual cap in crafting/gathering. Because, its at max level they kinda have a use for gearing/getting crafting component for end-game craft.

Special delivery is a huge Xp boost that require collectable too so....

Collectables DO matter. They're the best way to get scrips (much better than squadrons), and the only way to get white scrips. We have weekly custom deliveries with 4 dedicated NPCs, as well as daily hand-ins with Rowena's House of Splendours.

We do not need a beast tribe with collectables, because we already have an entire system and economy for it.

Once you've finished levelling your crafters you'll be doing more with collectables.

When they where first added the top level scripts had a weekly cap and were need for the gear for gatherers and mats for the top level crafts. The system was terrible though, gatherers had to use scripts to get there better gear (which was lock to each class) and the crafter gear mats ended up being so hard to get (and class locked) and the I don't remember the crafted combat gear ever being viable due to the cost. The abandoned most of the system by 3.2/3.4.

With endgame materia coming from both yellow and white scripts now they are just as relevant as they where before if you want to them, they are just less of a annoying progression gate.

Collectibles are the MOST efficient way to generate crafting/gathering Materia V, VI, VII, and VIII of your choosing.
The system already functions within the crafter/gatherer endgame UNLESS you don't mind spending millions of gil buying materia from the MB for overmelds.

Collectibles still matter quite a bit to those who want to be frugal or newer players that aren't sitting on a stockpile of gil.

So you're complaining that the game isn't forcing you to make collectibles? Beast Tribes like Moogles and Namazu where added much later in the expansions long after the majority of players had reached level cap. Those beast tribes made it easier for people that came afterward. Until you hit level cap, collectibles are optional way to level.

I would like to see a puzzle tribe personally. There have been some really nice puzzles in seasonal events and we have not gotten more quests like The Greatest Story Never Told.

    Curious responses, quite curious.

Some think I'm calling it useless.
    Others think I'm dismissing it.
Others seem to think that I'm demanding to do more of it.

I've gotten this far and nothing has forced me to make even one collectible item. I have gotten used to making HQ items, and I've gotten used to the idea of beast tribes demanding them. Perhaps if they required a collectible and worked it in with the plot, more people might start doing them? Without Rowena on the first, why NOT have a beast tribe be the ones who handle the collectable market? Maybe they'd finally get somebody who's somehow avoided even putting collectable onto my bar, to actually learn how it's done?

Sometimes the game is good at holding your hand, others it tosses you into the deep end. Maybe I should have learned it by now? On the other hand if it's only used for things that I can quite easily skip over and never have to worry about, items that arn't made anymore, that arn't needed anymore, and are obsolieted by items that are easily made in other ways...

What people are telling you is... yea you can level without doing collectibles... but you'll level much faster if you do them. You absolutely MUST do collectibles to get scrips in any usable number, which are used to purchase scrip gear and top tier materia so you can meld (and overmeld) your gear, as well as for certain high end materials like Aethersand which is required for many 2-star and up crafts.

What makes you think "more people" aren't already doing collectibles? Sure you don't need to do them to level, but if you ignore them you're going to level much slower and if you never look into doing them and just leave the collectible abilities off your bar, you're not really going to be getting those sweet sweet scrips.

The game already guides you to collectibles with special deliveries which requires you to do collectibles and offers a ton of xp for leveling and lots of top end scrips for purchasing.

You "got this far" without collectibles... but you'd have been much further with them and have lots of scrips to buy high end materia to use or sell for crazy amounts of gil. If you ignored collectibles, it's not the fault of the game for not holding your hand enough.

You'll never be forced to, but they're a good leveling tool and you'll be waiting forever to do anything at endgame if you try to get all your scrips from squadrons.
