COMPLAINT: Can't progress level 79 story quest until level 80 role quest complete?

I hope the devs read this and fix it (doubt it but I'm frustrated and need to vent). Why would you make a quest level 79 when you need a level 80 quest to complete it? I am at a point in the story where you need to do the level 80 role quest for healers. I cant progress in the msq quest because of it. However, the msq quest requires only level 79.

    lol wut?

Why would you not make the msq quest require 80 if you need a level 80 side quest? Makes no sense. So now I am stuck at 7mil short of level 80 and there is no quick way to get that exp (already did leveling roulette for the day). Very frustrating. I just want to experience teh story. I dont like my progress being blocked in a video game for asinine things like this. I could understand if the msq quest itself required 80, that makes sense. but its not and that's really irritating.

    Sorry, vent over.

The quest level immediately goes up to Lv80 once you complete that quest.

I think it's done that way because you can get to that point where you're told you'll need to complete your Lv80 job quest while you're still Lv79. Otherwise you might find yourself blocked by quest level, go away to level up, come back to pick up the MSQ again, and almost immediately be told that you can't progress because you should have done your role quest!

But I'm already blocked by quest level. I can't do the role quest until i'm level 80 anyway. How is that helpful? It should have been set at before accepting the quest that you have to be level 80 AND you need to do the level 80 role quest. That woudl ahve made more sense. How does it make sense to block progression in a level 79 quest with a level 80 quest when you aren't the right level to do the level 80 quest?

    Sequence now:
    1. Work through early Tempest quests.
    2. Accept this quest as a Lv79 character.
    3. Arrive at Grenoldt's forge and learn that you need to complete your Lv80 role quest to proceed.
    4. Go away to achieve two goals: level up and complete that quest. (Possibly you also need to do the earlier quests in the chain, which might give you the EXP you need to reach 80.)
    5. Return and continue to the end of MSQ.

Sequence if you needed to be Lv80 to accept the quest:
    1. Work through early quests.
    2. You reach this quest at Lv79 but can't accept it until you level up.
    3. You go away, level up and immediately return, eager to continue your MSQ.
    4. You accept the quest, reach the forge.... and learn you have to go and do your role quest. Possibly the entire chain.
    5. Leave to do other quests (again).
    6. Now you can continue.

The current setup means you're interrupted once, not potentially twice, and immediately know everything that you need to do before you can continue.

I disagree since at the very beginning of the msq when you are introduced to the Crystarium tavern they tell you that you have to do your role quests to get thru the msq. So thru the entire msq, Ive been doing those quests as soon as I was the correct level. So it is very jarring and frustrating to suddenly come to a quest where it says its level 79 but you actually have to be 80 to clear it. That''s dumb. If I need to be 80, don't let me accept it until i'm 80! It's like going for a test where the test is for MATH 210 but then you discover midway thru the test that you need MATH 310 to clear MATH210 even tho MATH310 is the next year's course. Like wth? You shouldn't be able to accept that quest until you meet both conditions, level 80 and the final role quest complete. This knocks out two birds with one stone.

Tbh, I just think they shouldn't force you to do side quests just to advance in the main story. They are SIDE quests and side quests should always be optional. They didn't do this crap in any previous expansion so I don't get the purpose of doing this now. All it does is be frustrating and block my progress in the game. I just want to do the story, not do all the other stuff because to be quite honest, I suck at this game lol. I cant do savage, I'm terrible in Alliance raids and already have a hard time keeping tanks alive who do super large pulls in dungeons and I am really really super bad in any other role but healing. I just want the story lol. It's the only reason I play the game really.

So you would prefer if they set the quest requirement to level 80 one step sooner(as Iscah said, the next quest requires level 80), and if they didnt let you pick up the quest until you already had the second requirement met. I can understand that. Personally, i didnt mind it the way it was. If i had known i would have to stop at the end of the quest for a side trek then it may have caused me to prioritize an extra roulette or two to get the level i needed before i got there, but not knowing what was coming kept me more in the moment. I got to the forge only to realize that i dont have the item i need to inspire not-gerolt back to work, so i need to go out and find it. Honestly, they could put the quest break right there when you meet him and he doesnt have the work finished. Then to go further, you go find his inspiration and come back to continue(or just, you know, continue if you already had it like you would now).

And i wont spoil anything, but these particular side quests are plot relevant. So i didnt mind the requirement. Besides, doing your class quests to get the armor set(and extra skills) was always basically required in previous expansions too, so this version of it was fine for me too.

That actually would have been better. They should have divided the quest in two so when you get to him, you complete the current one and then you talk to him again to start the next msq if you had gotten level 80 and level 80 role quest. Unfortunately, I already did the roulette for the day so I'm stuck waiting for reset to actually get up to level 80. Tbh tho, I do not think this next leveling roulette is going to push me up this time, 8 mil is quite a substantial amount to go and I don't leveling gives you that much exp. And the other roulettes give even less.

You arent stuck till the next day when you can do leveling roulette again. Leveling roulette isnt the only source of xp, you can do main story roulette, the 79 dungeon once or twice, fates and so on. plenty of stuff to do to reach that last bit to lvl 80.

As i said, they don't give that much exp to be worth it, why waste my time? I'm better off just waiting for the next day anyway, so I just went to bed lol.

Regarding the msq roulette, I refuse to do that. I'm not going to sit thru an hour of cutscenes I've already seen just for a level. No thx. That is the one roulette I refuse to do.

If you only need 8 mil, just run Mt. Gulg one more time. No need to even do roulettes, as that dungeon should give you enough EXP to level up. Then you can complete your level 80 role quest, return to The Tempest, and turn in the level 79 quest. Make sure you speak with Totally-Not-Gerolt again, as he will furnish you with your level 80 artifact gear for whichever job you are playing completely for free.

Either way, you were going to get level locked after this quest, as the next four MSQ are level 80. Better to get the level lock out of the way sooner rather than after, in my opinion.

If I recall, a run of Mt. Gulg at level 79 nets over 10 million EXP. It’s been a while since I’ve done it on a 79 job as I haven’t been leveling, but it gives a fairly substantial amount—especially if you have FC buffs and food on. It’s certainly not “that much exp to be worth it”.
