Only because you can deal with your space doesn't mean it's a working system guys... Like kaiserdrache explained with numerous examples, ff14 inventory system is a big joke. I wouldn't even be sure about the data load tied to a character being bigger on gw2 than ff14 despise doing way less visible to us.

Idk what's there to defend, marketboard, retainer and inventory management are still the most annoying features to deal with in this game.

I could login and spent 1-2hrs just on inventory management with selling what is worth something, trading in for gc seals, converting gear to materia, throwing away junk, double checking gearsets, desynthing. Checking if you already own the item elsewhere.. Just sorting as if it's a job than a game xD
Then you do one dungeon and get orchestrion scrolls, dyes, prisms, potions, maybe even mob specific loot, gear, crafting materials, tokens, triple triad cards. You get flodded with items wherever you go.
But why fix it, if people buy retainers. Not fixing, means more money...it's not even permanent like in most other games, it's just an extra monthly sub for inventory space...

Or deal with items as you get them instead of waiting until your inventory is completely full so you have no choice. If it's taking you 1-2 hours to sort through what you have, you're doing something terribly wrong.

I have yet to play a MMORPG where inventory management wasn't a part of the game play. For that matter, I can't think of any single player RPGs I've played that didn't also require some extensive inventory management. I was always rapidly at a point where I need to sell off or discard part of my inventory to make room for more valuable items.

Giving you more inventory space isn't going to solve your problem. Learning to manage your inventory better will. Get rid of those items you don't have an immediate use for. There's very few items so rare that they're worth holding onto just in case you might decide you want them letter. The vast majority can be easily farmed if you decide you want them later.

Yes, inventory management is a part of every MMO, but so is giving players tools to do that management. I don't really find the dev's tired refrain about data storage/transfer very compelling - it feels like incompetence. The personal inventories, retainers, mail, and company chest of this game are all clunky, inefficient, and inadequate when compared to other games. That's just...a fact as far as I see it. Organized players can mitigate some of the impact of these poorly-implemented features, but not all of it.

Really? Because there are quite a few that don't require any inventory management at all. Many from Square Enix.

But I don't think anyone is suggesting our inventory space here should be unlimited. MMORPGs do involve some degree of inventory management; that's been a thing forever and isn't likely to go away. The issue comes from the game design. Games with class shifting have to deal with this all the time. Some of them handle it by making stats generic and applicable to all classes. Some classes may need more of one thing than another one does, but no stat would be completely useless to any class. FFXIV handles that with the armory chest which kind of works (if you squint). The real issue is the crafting classes. By making every craft a class and higher levels of crafting still making use of lower tier items, SE has created an environment where you need to hang on to a LOT of stuff if you do a lot of crafting. This is compounded by the fact that we have NQ and HQ versions of nearly every crafting material. Now an experienced crafter can work this out and should generally know what they do and do not need to stock, at least at max level. But while leveling? It's a nightmare.

And SE's solution to this is to RENT you bank space; something not even done in f2p games.
