The problem is that that takes a huge amount of time and effort. Back when I was trying to get by with just the two free retainers we're allowed without raising our subscription costs, inventory management reached the point where it ate up more than half of my game time. It turns FFXIV into a pretty dull game when it consists mostly of shuffling items around while looking up availability on each one.

Paying for a couple extra retainers cut down the frequency of that requirement, allowing me to spend more time actually playing the game, though of course I still have to periodically stop to sort out the accumulated inventory mess. While without that extra space, it would, strictly speaking, have been possible to play the game, it wouldn't have been a fun enough game to be worth playing. Being able to focus on the game itself, rather than just inventory management, shouldn't incur extra fees in a pay to play game. It should be the normal default state.

Two of them.. I suspect three grades of alkahests by the end of the expansion. Oh and you make them in 3s of course, so there's usually some left over.

Sad to see that you agree with this greedy scam.

I'm gathering stuff to level up the jobs, i'm already getting rid of what I MAY not use it for now, still no space anymore.
So you are a very experienced player in managing stuff, could you give me advices on how to do it?
I’d be happy to. The solution is simple, don’t worry about levelling them all equally at the same time.
Focus on say, the metal using crafters first. Don’t keep lots of cloth or food until it’s time to do those classes.

The ideal way to level a crafter is levequests or collectables. So if you know what levequest you need to spam, you realistically only need those materials gathered and nothing more.

Anything you aren’t immediately going to use, sell off or throw away. They can be re-gathered.

I leveled all my crafters and gatherer with just two retainers. You need to manage it better.

Having a lot of space won't fix the problem for two reasons.
    1. Having more space will just make you go "This is still not enough"
    2. Market supply to be inflated, so when it comes to the material availability it'll just making things too cheap if a lot of them is available.

Yep pay to craft is a nice way of saying that paying for more retainers gives you a definite advantage in crafting (easier to get mats, more inventory space, more MB slots.)

Canadane is right that leves are the way to go for leveling - the charity/triple turn ins are usually my favorite to save on leve allowances. Then it also doesn’t matter as much if you can’t easily HQ the items.

If you turn in a single thing at a time then you either only use the mats for that one item.

Alternately if you have the gil you can just buy the items (often cheaply from NPC shops or market board) and avoid materials entirely.

The advice to get rid of everything you can buy cheaply is also good. Just buy it - you will save inventory management time which will allow you to craft more and make more much more gil than you spent.

I feel for you as a mass hoarder of glam items I struggle with having room. I make sure to delete useless items from my inventory on a regular basis and still have this issue. Also my retainers and chocobo bag are packed with glam lol. While I do think the game does try to give us alot of space for our items, one more free retainer would help a ton. Between all the mog station outfits and in game styles even with a perfectly managed inventory you can still struggle with space.

Yeah, I have tons of gear, largely blue tomestone gear, in glamour closet and in retainer inventory. And I already got rid of a ton of it on jobs that I don’t play often.

I would like to see a system where any piece of gear that you bind automatically becomes a glamour that you can use any time in the future.

I also have tons of unsellable tokens. I would like to see all tokens added to currency or to key items.

My old mmo, DCUO, had this system in place and it worked like a charm. Once you bound the item you could delete it and then use it any time as glam and you would always have it. It was called the style tab. That game had terrible inventory space compared to FFXIV and even so there was never any issues with space because of it. If a crappy mmo like that one could pull it off I don't see why this one couldn't. It would surely solve the inventory issues once and for all.
