NEW HEALER CLASS IDEA!

Not many pure healers left in the FF lore. But then again Scholar wasn't one and they turned it into a healer so who knows.

Just throwing a few names from jobs we've seen in previous FF, whether they are spin offs or main series.

Potential healing jobs:

Chemist, Bishop, Shaman (Elementalist), Sage, Occultist, Orator, Mystic, Green Mage, Time Mage, Songstress/Singer and Priest/Devout.

I would like to see some sort of combat medic myself, whether it's a chemist with a rifle or a cleric type healer with a mace and shield. I think the former is more likely but being a frontline melee healer like wow's holy paladin or a gw2 guardian is the one thing I miss from other mmos.

I don't even care about the gear sets, rdm already uses a sword while wearing big bulky robes, so someone in a pretty white dress bashing faces in is a non issue.

... And original jobs, of course. Gunbreaker may be "inspired" by previous protagonists, but the job title itself is new. Likewise some jobs are classic in-name only.

For instance (and I realize I'm getting my hopes up): Necromancer. Turning allies into undead (vampires, ghosts, etc) to inherit their survival bonuses; draining life from enemies to give it to allies; "false life" effects and phylacteries; summoning and sacrificing undead minions; cursing enemies to deal reduced damage or turn on their allies...

I don’t like the idea of Necromancer for lore reasons. We’ve encountered it several times throughout the story and it’s always been a terrible idea. See Edda Blackbosom. The Ascians are kinda Necromancers too, their entire plan is to resurrect their dead people by sacrificing everyone else.


They tend to add in jobs that people have asked for previously, so I think the most likely healer is some form of Chemist, although it may be tweaked into something more original due to similarities with Alchemist and Scholar.

Barring Chemist, the healer job I would like is Psychic. That being the dressphere version from FFX-2, as a techy, psychokinetic powers type deal, not the ‘fortune telling psychic’ that AST already covers.

Geomancer is also widely requested, and hinted at in game, but it’s not very consistent. In the AST questline they can raise shields, but in the Four Lords story they’re caster DPS.
I’d like it to be more of a support caster DPS to be honest. I imagine it being based around earth/wind/water spells, like a DPS WHM, with ground-targeted AoE buff fields, that can increase defence, attack or speed.
If RDM is the ‘Bard’ of casters, then Geomancer would be the ‘Dancer’ of casters.

Yes, and Ascians are also Summoners and Black Mages. We shouldn't discard the idea offhand because enemies use the same powers -- just look at Dark Knights and Dragoons, who literally use the power of those who they consider enemies.
Lore can change. By lore all White Mages were Padjal, Sharlayan Astrology is illegal to teach to outsiders, and the principles of Mhachi, Nymian and Allagan magic were dead and lost to time... until we came along and changed the lore.
Who's to say we can't have a trainer whose views on Necromancy are the same as a Grave Cleric from D&D? The Thaumaturge's Guild already operates out of a temple to a death god, after all.

Truth be told, I'm on the fence about a Chemist. At best a Mix-type command would essentially just be Mudras all over again, and at worst the devs' previous attempt at making a gun-toting Chemist ended with the creation of Astrologian and Machinist instead.

I know I'm not thrilled about the idea of a "Cleric" though. It's basically just the halfway point between a Paladin and a White Mage as yet another healer, bringing nothing new to the table beyond aesthetics.

I still think it's different.
It's not about it being a power used by enemies, but about the effects of that power.

I just can't see a viable way to turn raising the dead into a healer job without it being completely against the mythos.
There's a reason why 'becoming the warrior of darkness' didn't have us actually having any dark powers.
There's a reason why they had to differentiate Summoners powers from primal summoning, Black Magic from voidsent, etc.
Given the entire PotD storyline, how could you possibly turn that around into a good thing?

To put it simply, once someone is dead, it's too late for a healer.

What you'd need is something different, some different type of healer with a darker flavour, but it wouldn't be a Necromancer.

I’d prefer not to have a ground targeting healer because placing sacred soil is already enough of a pain. Sacred soil over target is one macro I never want to do without, but I’d rather not rely on macros for my job’s main gimmick.

Also, I don’t want either geomancer or time mage specifically because these are two aspects that current healers have lost, and I’d rather not encourage a pattern of stripping away the identity of current healers to make way for new ones. I’d much rather see chemist, necromancer, or psychic out of the ones I’ve seen suggested. I also wouldn’t mind a Druid which was based entirely around plants, as opposed to the geomancer which would presumably also concern stone.

So from what I understand, the devs over at square need new ideas for a healer. So hear me out,...

GEOMANCER

It could operate much like mechanist does with turrets, but with trees providing powerful aoe heals. Instead of directly healing with skills, the geomancer could keep these tree-turrets alive with a dual purpose AOE spell, specifically water/watera/waterga to both deal damage and water the plant life. In solo adventures the trees could garner aggro with each heal and in duties or trials the various AOE abilities could deal damage to the trees if the boss does not aggro them. The geomancer could also spawn various plant life, like a mighty oak to heal a tank, mushrooms for various status effects, and if the geomancer is in trouble perhaps a fissure of magma, or the spell comet! Not to mention being able to spawn a powerful yggdrasil sapling as an ultimate healing ability B-).

I believe that since square is having trouble with a new healing class, this could be the answer they are looking for! It fits with final fantasy lore, it would make for new/interesting gameplay, and to top it all off the armor would look incredible!

I made an account just to share this idea, I posted quickly, and I posted before seeing if this was an idea listed already or if this was the correct place to post, so please be kind. Let me know what you think! If this gets noticed maybe the devs will have the inspiration they need!

I imagined GEO sort of like a combination of GEO / SCH from FFXI, for maybe simplicity sake. Using a bubble on party members or an enemy, to inflict damage, and or give a buff.

Geomancer's could be given Storm spells that manipulate their surroundings, and change the "terrain" effect by combining elements.

Like, let's say it uses a "Rainstorm" and it then uses a "Standstorm" it can create a "Mudslide" terrain where enemies are given a "Slow" effect, while party members are given a "Regen with added Defense +%"

Your idea seems really fun too! I'd love to Geomancer, and I think it could be made unique.

If we were to get a 4th healer, I'd much prefer something with a more 'technologial' twist, we have 3 magic themed healers already.
