If you really don't want to use a parser or have somebody else parse you, I have known of an absolute madman on ps4 that legit would tally up the entire goddamn battle log on a calculator and divide by the total seconds the fight took to measure dps. Doesn't really work for DoTs though unless you estimate damage.

SE are just consistent with themselves ... FF14 looks like a 2004 game, The fake open world with small zone and loading transition even for city/water feel like 1990 game, the combat system with slow 2.5 cooldown feel like an 1990 game ... so why could we use add-on like WoW ?

It's too modern, too fluid and pleasant. It's not FF14 identity.

I am a programmer, and parsing is basically just adding up damage numbers from the log then dividing by time (simplified). It's trivial. ACT already does it successfully and it's developers are 3rd party with barely any access to game resources. No, their decision has nothing to do with the complexity of implementing a parser.

Parsers are both a boon and a curse, I'll warn you now.

I think what would be good for SE to implement as a compromise would be a victory screen and/or chat log message that came up after zoning out of a dungeon that shows two things: your personal dps for that run, and the average dps for your job in the dungeon over a recent time period like 2 weeks or a month. This way it lets people know around where they sit relative to others, but doesn't give any of this info while still in the dungeon or gives your personal dps to the other party members to help avoid the parse shaming that SE wants to avoid.

This is a useful compromise for two reasons. One, it gives all players including those on console a way to see how they're doing and it keeps the information private. Two, it still allows them to keep their current policies on 3rd party parsers and harassment, because players would still not have official access to other people's numbers unless they chose to share them so reporting people for parse shaming wouldn't meaningfully change.

I just want to remind everyone that ffxiv has a damage meter. It just only shows up at the end of PVP. Make that accessible to PVE and the problem is solved.

I understand how useful a DPS meter is but man do i not want to relive my WoW days of people screaming in chat to kick a player and linking the DPS meter after the first trash pull of a normal dungeon. The metric for whats good or bad DPS in the mind of the general community is always screwed up and it leads to a lot of toxicity.

Im much happier with the current "dont ask dont tell" approach. If your playing on ps4 i guess you're out of luck. you could always group with someone on pc with a parse and have them measure for you.

We could have those dummies in eso. These would put SSS out of business

Make it personal only, so you can never see anyone else's performance. Solo, you get your actual DPS/HPS. In a group, you just get a position score ("You were 3rd in whatever for that last fight")
You won't know anyone else's results to hold against them, but you still get the data you need to see if you need to improve.
Perhaps allow a position score when at the dummies with someone else ungrouped as well, so you can see how your relative performance is.

I thought I was doing pretty good in the game until I installed a parser and saw I was coming up below the tanks and healers. That sent me off to the guides and dummies to learn now to improve.

Now, I just need to remember to run it again during my next Eden set to see if I have actually improved
Just tried it on Sepulture. Second to last, but then, I died five times (Tired, shouldn't have done it.)

But then, if you consistently come in near the bottom no matter what you try, you might just get discouraged and quit playing, which Square definitely doesn't want.
