Fictosexuality, Fictoromance, and Fictophilia: A Qualitative Study of Love and Desire for Fictional Characters
When you deal with human beings, never count on logic or consistency.

That's an interesting article. I've been crushing on fictional characters since I first saw Astro Boy on TV circa 1970. (I know, but there's no accounting for a little girl's taste.)
My parents were... less than ideal, and I'm an adopted only child. I wonder if that has something to do with it.
Oh, and I'm one of millions who is currently crushing on Aymeric.

Take Tali from Mass Effect. She is like my ideal woman. I love that woman and even replayed the first one so I could romance no one. I however do not LOVE Tali. Tali isn't real. I just love the idea of her.
I'm sure most fit that exact category but don't label it as such when they say things...
then you get people like the OP...and they are actually in love with a fictional character. It's almost like the one woman who is so in love with an inanimate object that she married it. The Eiffel Tower. Wooboy that's a documentary to watch.

Tali was so darn precious, I honestly do not blame you! Alot of the characters in Mass Effect were just amazing. They did an excellent of making you actually feel you had a connection to your crew.I think some people are confusing being in love with a character and being in love with the idea of a character.

Garrus though I think will always be my fictional crush in Mass Effect. He had the perfect balance of best bro, dad, and romantic partner for me. I am kind of bummed out with how they took some of the romance directions in some of the dlc content. One in particular was Kaiden just being cold towards Shepard during what seemed like a life or death moment. For the contrast during similar moments Garrus give Shepard a hug. He finally stopped calibrating [-_-] And there is a fantastic but very short dance scene you get. The whole altercation at the very end of 3 on Earth really killed me.
I probably could go on about many of the characters though, they were awesome and have unique precious things about them. But aye the distinction between being in love with the idea of the character and their personality and wishing for someone who fills that particular feeling is very different from actually being in love with the character. I am reminded of strange high school girls crushing on random generic anime crush of the week to the creepy degree where they would make themselves as a character and draw them and sasuke. I will also never forget the unending cringe, no offense to people, that was my immortal. I however do love a good train wreck.
You have also reminded me of a video I seen about Spectrophilia of all things, I will also never forget those cringe videos that are kind of just depressing. The marry a gameboy, marry body pillow, the one guy who believed he was going to marry or date Kotonoha Katsura from school days. Thats a rabbit hole.
Garrus was such a bro. If you can't give each other handjos and share the Milk of Human Kindness between each other...can you even call them your bros?Tali was so darn precious, I honestly do not blame you!
