So "healer DPS is basically required for early Savage kills unless everyone else is pulling basically 99th percentile" and "they very quickly returned Energy Drain, one of the core parts of Scholar's damage kit.
As for the rest though, we honestly agree on most levels. It's inarguable that as the game is right now healer DPS is not just a necessity but something that is actively encouraged. Only difference is I think it's intentional, regardless of a few quotes by Yoshi-P, and you probably don't. Either way yeah, end result is that FFXIV's design does not encourage pure healing.
(Out of interest, does anybody know if there has ever been a tier of Savage in which, with the healers doing 0 DPS, a group of tanks and DPS with average damage could have cleared all the fights in the first week? I could be wrong, but I don't think one has ever existed.)
i figured "healers" would love me for clemency that way they don't have to stop DPSing over a little thing like healing the tank.
i'm waiting for the day when i get a message saying "um can you like use your skills and Clemency yourself so that i can keep spamming holy?"
I love it when my health is jarring up and down from 5 to 100 percent, I see the healer doing damages, and I'm not eating dirt. If all three are ticked, I am at maximum happy, because I know the dungeon is going faster for it.
Only Hit Point that matters is the last one.
Sometimes I clemency though if I notice the healer is struggling, or if DPS are taking a lot of damage from eating AoE's. Not really a trust thing then, mostly just trying to relieve the healers load some.
Edit; Oh wow that was my first post on this forum, wild!
yeah, its not like im simply disagreeing for the sake of it. regardless of if we think its intentional or not, the design behind it- what we actually have- encourages it either way. Not the end of the world, really.
as for your question, the DPS meta didnt even really exist until gordias bent the playerbase over it's knee and gave it a good, raw paddlin'. Even then, it was in it's very baby form. we didnt really see the lengths that we see now until alexander/deltascape. before then, in the good old days of coil and the arr extremes, healer DPS was pretty low in general. i wasnt around back then, so i dont know if it was actually 0, but from what i've watched/heard/read... it's low at best. It was a different time
Listen.. PLDs heal themselves in dungeons so healers can do more damage. PLDs heal themselves in raids and trials because their healers suck.. or are too busy healing DRGs or MNKs. End Discussion
Drops Mic...
Nah, it's been around since ARR. Example being that Holy use to be 240 Potency to all foes with it's stun and ect.yeah, its not like im simply disagreeing for the sake of it. regardless of if we think its intentional or not, the design behind it- what we actually have- encourages it either way. Not the end of the world, really.

Many didn't go for it right away because it wasn't well known or explored, WAR was just coming back up after it had fallen flat on it's face from the initial relaunch. But as more people started catching on, people started doing it more and more

Sometimes a Paladin using clemency isn’t so cut and dry.. I haven’t once seen a Paladin cast Clemency at 95% health.
I play both Tank and Healer and Clemency can get you from 75% to almost 100%... the way I see it is taking some stress off the healer.
As Paladin, If I see healer mp is low I will finish combo and use Clemency. We have it for a reason.
As a healer, if I see the Paladin using Clemency it sometimes tells me that maybe they’re a more nervous tank and it wouldn’t kill me to keep their health higher than I had been before. I will also at times ask tanks to let me know if they’re uncomfortable with me letting their health drop below 50%(sometimes getting to 30% before I use a CD). Just because we are comfortable doesn’t mean they are.
Let’s say it again. Just because we are comfortable doesn’t mean they are.
