So this is an issue that has jumped out at me with advent of the new patch and the job system.
I, along with many others who play this game, frequently use the in game macro system to quickly switch from one class to another. This is a process that requires the use of two macro slots per class because a single macro slot does not provide enough space to change each set of equipment (including accessories). Ultimately If i were to make a macro to quickly change between each battle class and its job counterpart in the game the process would consume 28 slots. To do one for each crafting class would consume an additional 16 and the gathering classes another 6.
28+16+6= 50
That's half of the 100 macro slots available to me taken up solely by macros that change my equipment from one job to the next. This leaves me very little space to design macros that actually help me to be more effective in combat. White Mage itself took up a whole row. If the other classes need just as much than there will be no way to fit it all in. Perhaps I may be exaggerating the system a little bit (I don't actually think each crafting class needs two macros to itself) but if the class and job system are going to continue to expand, the same ought to be done to our macro slots.
Additionally, my frustration with the system is further compounded by the fact that we are only given a total of 99 unique icons (the blank one doesn't count). This makes it difficult to find a unique picture to associate with new macros. Since all of the obvious choices for my job macros were taken by the ones associated with its sister class it began to be very difficult to find proper images for the new job macros.
White Mage and Black Mage were easy enough, I used the old icons for banish and scourge. Monk was a bit of a stretch, but the chakram icon fits thematically. Paladin is defendy so it got the shield. Bard however? It got the guy with sunglasses.. because hey.. sunglasses. Warrior? Dragoon? I guess i should use the icon with the guy shrugging his shoulders because there's nothing to really represent either.
To simplify I'll phrase my main questions here:
1. Will we be getting more macro slots in the foreseeable future?
2. Can the length of the macros be extended so that I can change all of my equipment (including accessories) with a single button.
3. Can we have new macro icons that match some of the new abilities and new jobs.
I would really appreciate some discussion in these areas.
