I know it's not really priority but just wanted to hope a minor adjustment could be done- I feed my FC chocobo's nearly daily and I see that color a lot lol. I'd love for it to be clearer. Don't get me wrong I like the light theme, and still use it, but the difference between the 9 and the 12 in the above image at least for my eyes is... it's really really similar lol. I can see it, but it's not readily different and I'd hope for the interface to be smooth / easy to read and use.
I am going to assume changing the color isn't as simple as just one menu change, like if it's a global setting or something and changing the color goes cross all menus and might ruin the theme that works great except for one area. So maybe in case that assumption is true I'd suggest that chocobos that are available for the next rank (and need an onion) get a little icon next to their name to represent that. Perhaps literally the icon can be an onion lol, maybe to be clearer it's a little up arrow to the right of an onion as the icon (it really doesn't need to be an onion, could be honestly whatever represents ready for next rank). Max ranked chocobos could get a crown if you want to be extra cute.
Or, avoiding adding anything to the interface like that- under training in the above image when the chocobo is ready for their next onion change ready to something else like "Peaked" or something that signifies a halt.
Thank you for reading, again![]()
Just going to slap this thread again, I'm not colorblind and these colors are just so similar lol:
I understand if the colors cannot be picked per specific UI, or if it was different that it would look off, so those two solutions may not be ideal.. but then at least consider adding some other way to make it obvious if a chocobo is available to feed. Like maybe a cute hungry icon!![]()
Not to sound disparaging here but I think you might actually be colorblind, yeah..
Maybe it's your monitor. Try another one first. Adjust your settings there..
Otherwise I think you might want to go talk to an ophthalmologist about this one. The contrast between those two colors is very high. You didn't post a single example of anything even remotely hard to read.
Eh I've done tests, I just disagree in a long list that there is a strong contrast. Probably did the test in part because of this UI to check lol.. then I asked my wife and friends.. they all say they are similar but can be seen. I'm not saying it can't, just that they're poor color choices to signify large differences. Not to sound disparaging here but I think you might actually be colorblind, yeah..

I'm also sure my monitor and distance to face plays a part though, as it is easier to see the difference on the phone- though I would still absolutely claim they are similar colors (yes I know one is more red / orange and the other brown) and shouldn't be when they are trying to inform the player of difference. Especially noting that I have never, ever, had a color issue for any game, or those tests, before (like I've gone to the doctor, due to laser eye surgery, but you can do the dinky internet ones as well). I am confident that this is particularly just not great choice of colors to attempt to convey information quickly and effectively, even if there is a component of user setup (distance, brightness/color of monitors).
I CAN see the difference I find the difference annoying on the eyes as I have to look specifically at each element rather than glance, and good UI should be a glance only imo. Does it work, yes? Is it a good design choice... imo*, no. To that every other part of light UI I prefer, it's just that moment where I actually have to look at the list rather than intuitively glide through it (*I only check this UI once a day, so it's not like it constantly plagues me).

The point is not that they're indistinguishable. It's that they're indistinguishable at a glance. I'm not colorblind and I had to scan OP's original image attachment a second time more slowly because I didn't catch the brown 12 on the first pass. Maybe don't be so ableist. The two colors are definitely close enough that a UI/UX expert would tell whoever designed this to change one of them. Not to sound disparaging here but I think you might actually be colorblind, yeah..

This is a really awful take. The contrast is not high enough to be immediately obvious at a glance but even if it were that would still be a really awful take because people that are colour blind deserve accessibility too.
When colour alone is an issue then some other indicator should exist, it would be simple to add an underline or something to the level of those which are xp capped and it would be clear regardless of colour used or colour blindness.
★20
for maxed chocobos and
⚠️10
for chocobos that need to eat an onion would fix this easily.
