Square enix headed in the same direction blizzard did with WoW.

For those who haven't played/heard news about WoW: The latest expansion battle for azeroth has been pretty badly received. About half of all the classes were bad, players were pretty unanimously unhappy with the direction that that the game had taken. Skills were dumbed down and pruned, classes in general just got more boring to play. Players left the game en masse. And blizzard ignored everything about a year. WoW was once a really good game. I'm not sure if I can call it a good game right now.

Now about healers and the current live letter?

SE: We understand you don't like the cards, deal with it.
SE: What problems with sch? Btw new tooltips coming soon

Everything else ignored. I can't help but draw some parallels here. Why did I quit wow to play this game again?

I would say pruning of the skills etc isn't the biggest reason why WoW is struggling, but rather the vapid progression system. Sure, they have admitted they have pruned skills too much and will(?) be rolling it back a bit at some point. But still.

Anywho, I have to partially agree. I did get some WoW vibes when I found out how much has been pruned from the jobs. Like an omen, a glimpse of the horrible future that might be. With that said, some pruning was necessary to avoid horribly bloated hotbars.

As someone who quit WoW just before BfA, I kind of agree with the OP. But on the other hand, I don't think it's as big a problem here.

The real problem with WoW pruning, at least for me, isn't that it oversimplified combat. It's that it oversimplified combat when combat was the only thing WoW had going for it.

WoW, and certainly modern WoW, has boring crafting, few transmogs I like, no player housing, antiquated graphics, an (IMO) ugly visual style, a minimal story extended by gating, and much less social interaction than other MMORPGs. Once the combat was hollowed out, there was just nothing left for me to do and no reason to stay subscribed.

(In fairness, I really miss WoW zone design. I wish SE would start putting little interesting places to explore in their zones.)

It is definitely frustrating that all we got was "these are the changes, deal with them" despite how vocal the healing community has been about their displeasure over these changes.

I've been continuing to main scholar purely for my static, and because I do genuinely enjoy the savage content, but that has much more to do with the encounter design and the team I'm running it with rather than the class I've chosen to play. Outside of savage, I dont even want to log in after this live letter.

Make SCH great again! Seriously though, we just want our class to be fun and engaging again, not OP, is that too much to ask for?

I haven't played WoW in a long time but I'll take your word for it. Sounds rather grim.

Now it's been over a month since the Healer changes were made and had us all confused. I saw through the 100+ pages long LL thread where there were several popular questions as to why the changes happend, how healers weren't fun outside intense healing and if SE could meet up here for dialog about it. In the 7 pages long translated answer thread I saw one remark about Ast's card are here to stay and Sch's Fairy tooltips will be updated. All of this while other jobs were promised changes and encouraged to post on the forums about the changes.

Was it SE sidestepping the healer questions or the community managers chose not to bring them up. I'm still wondering about a lot of things, like how they can be happy with one damage button spam. Will have to keep this up and keep looking for other channels to ask questions.

Might I direct attention to the gigantic WHM feedback thread from two years ago, which accomplished...uh...deleting the lily RNG on Cure?

Given that proportion between feedback and response, Square blowing off liveletter questions is an average Wednesday. Sucks, but there you go.

This all sucks but that's the most offensive one, for DPS they gave words of reassurance, encouragement, keep the feedback coming, that their problems are top priority and that everything will be revised, fear not SAM / SMN / NIN but when Healers ask for some care and real answers their response is:

"Jeez, SCH alright, you lazy bums can just read the important tooltip now" (like it should have been).

    "AST, Deal with it".

This comfirms my theory that they changed the cards because of the battle changes and since they aren't going back to stormblood system astro's old card system is gone for good. Which is what I said would happen. Tho back then my only example was the TP removal... which was the bases of my entire debate. But didn't Astro get some major buffs tho? I thought Astro was good again this tier.. isn't also on the top of the charts of FFLOGS? I could've sworn I seen a chart stating it was D:

I actually like the way AST cards are now... and now that SCH has Energy Drain back I'm pretty happy with SCH as well.

How many men am I involved with? Well that depends... do you mean men as in males? Or just midlanders?

Nothings stopping you from going back. No one said you had to quit wow either. You can adapt or pick another job, that's the gimmick. Doesn't mean SE as a whooole company will flounder over 1 role change you dont like.
