Game unable to register controller inputs at random times

Hello, I'm having responsiveness issues with my wireless Xbox One controller

At random times, at least once a day, the game's responsiveness to controller inputs is cut halfway
It doesn't lose all registry, like if the controller was off, but registers one button press every three seconds or so. Some of those registered button presses 'stick' and do strange things like cycling through menu options faster than you could if you just held a directional button down.
During these periods, nothing i do to shake it ever works. Restarting the game, turning controller configuration on and off in both player and system settings.
I think maybe the controller itself was failing, but the Xbox Accessories app shows that i'm registering buttons presses properly with no issue. I test them in the app while FFXIV is alt-tabbed, then i go back into the game and the unresponsiveness continues. Controller firmware is up to date.

But the thing is, even though re-starting the game does nothing to affect unresponsiveness, the malfunction just seems to go away on its own after around fifteen minutes, with just as much randomness in going away as it started to begin with.
Button registry is just fine outside of these periods, and have only been occurring in the recent month or so.

The most concerning part of this issue is the randomness of when it happens without discernible cause and how cleanly it just 'disappears', only to come back just as bad again.

Good afternoon and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

When did this start happening? Do you recall anything changing/updating on your PC that coincides with this?

You mentioned this being a wireless controller, does connecting it via a USB cable change the issue once it starts?

Do you have another control to see if you can it will be replicated. This may narrow down the issue to the PC or the controller.

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

Hi, thank you for getting back to me

This started happening some time after Shadowbringers released. There were no problems on this computer when i played during the early Stormblood era, nor were there problems when i played on another laptop. Nothing major in changes to things like drivers and the like.
I connected a USB cable in an attempt to re-check the controller firmware but didn't have it connected when trying to troubleshoot the inputs
I don't have a second controller to compare the first one to.

    Hello
Another incident is happening as i type this
The controller works fine, again, in the xbox accessories app, but the game is unable to register inputs correctly
However, the controller was functioning with no incident for about three hours prior to when it happened
The game is registering input in the same manner as before, with one or two inputs every few seconds and 'sticky' inputs that cause things like switching/scrolling through selections in a menu several times a second
Connecting the controller directly via USB this time rendered no difference in effect
Removing and replacing the battery into the controller made no difference either
There are no automatic updates happening at the time i post this or any new changes in software

Good afternoon and thank for the reply.

Could you try updating the drivers for the controller?
