Gunbreaker job quest 70

Hi

I just got my GNB to lvl 70 and I was doing the pertinent job quest (Steel agains't Steel) to get a new skill, when suddenly I ran into Vitus quo Messalla with like 1 million HP that takes half my HP with a single blow. Everything was OK when the cute Viera NPC was healing me, but once she was taken out of the fight I got destroyed. I didn't fail at any mechanic, I dodged every single AoE and used cooldowns.

I'm currently ilvl 290 and I have 40k HP, I've done all 60-70 dungeons just fine until now and I also did lvl 70 quest with my BLM with the same ilvl without any problem.

Why is this fight so stupidly hard? All videos I found are from people with twice my HP and I don't understand why a fresh 70 can't do a lvl 70 quest like any other job.


EDIT: I somehow managed to beat this guy but I don't think that's the intended way to do it. I ran away ALL the time using defensives and keeping DoTs on him... Took some time but he's dead, though I still think the difficulty is too high and must be reviewed, I got hit once and I went from full HP to 0 both from his AoE and from the stack icon at the start which I am suposed to soak with the other NPC.

Scaevan gear was the top endgame gear outside of Savage fights in Stormblood, so level 70 gear. With the new expansion out, you can purchase this gear with Tomestones of Poetics, which you probably have plenty of lying around if you run roulettes and such regularly. The vendor is in Rhalgr's Reach on the east side, named Enna; even getting a Scaevan weapon, chest piece and leg piece would probably help a lot. The weapon's a little trickier, as you have to purchase 10 Rowena's Tokens of Genesis and a Military-grade Tomestone from the "Other" tab and trade them in to Eschina for the weapon. You can also augment the pieces with Scaevan Ester (for the weapon), Twine (for armor), or Shellac (accessories) that you can trade with the gear piece to E'bolaff for the augmented versions, which are ilvl 400.

That all being said, I do remember there being an ilvl sync for the level 70 instance, which is rather unusual (and I could be incorrect about that), so you may want to check out a rotation guide to make sure you've got that down.

now that you're 70 and we're in 5.0 you should have immediately went and spent your poetics on the highest level gear you can get. go to Rhalgar's Reach and buy the Scaevan gear with your poetics. You were basically minimum ilvl doing that fight. the highest ilvl sync for that encounter is 395. I had my left over omega tank gear and did that no problem.

The fight has indeed a level sync but it was 395 so it only lowers you if you're higher, but doesn't adjust if you're lower.
As for the rotation, I'm 100% sure that's not the problem, I'm usually equal or higher than DPS on most instances unless they have higher ilvl, and even then I'm not that far behind.

Ok so I've gone to Rhalgar Reach but the only NPCs there are the Centurio Seal ones, most likely because I haven't finished Stormblood final quest yet (only final fight left I believe) so I'll finish that and pray the sellers appear without having to do 4.1+ content.

Ah, good to know on the ilvl sync; I remembered that there was one, but not the actual ilvl.

Yeah, if you've got i290 gear on, go complete the 4.0 MSQ first; that will unlock the vendors in Rhalgr's. While most people recommend completing your level 70 job quest first to get the Artifact armor gear (which is also i290), GNB doesn't have level 70 AF gear, so definitely tackle that first.
