    Why not bring back Leeches and Exalted Detriment?

    When Stormblood released, it came with the Additional Action system to replace the old Cross-Class one, and I believe they said they intended to have players communicate, cooperate, and decide on which abilities each party member would take into battle. I don't remember the concept being well received, so they eventually removed the restriction on how many abilities could be taken into battle.

    However, when the system was originally implemented, some healer spells like Leeches and Exalted Detriment were reduced to Esuna - which was probably just for the sake of having another action to add to the selection.

    Now that the original concept of Additional Actions was essentially trashed and reworked in Shadowbringers, what was the point of merging Esuna, Leeches, and Exalted Detriment? This could be asked for a couple of abilities. Tanks used to have Rampart, Shadowskin, and Foresight (even though it technically had a different effect). While there was no Scholar equivalent, we also had Shroud of Saints and Luminiferous Aether for White Mage and Astrologian respectively.

    So I ask: Why not give jobs back some of their original abilities with unique animations, icons, and sound effects? For example, look at the ranged physical DPS. They have individual forms of AoE mitigation: Troubadour, Tactician, and Shield Samba.

    This is pretty inconsequential to some players, which I can understand, but I enjoyed each job having their different versions of abilities, and it kinda sucks to see them homogenized.

    I'm all for bringing more color and indentiy back to some jobs. There is no choice to be made which Role Actions you want to take, and cross-class skill system probably won't make a return. Letting like you say each healer get their own version of Esuna with it's own spell effect and sound would be neat. The files for that is probably still be around for them. It might a bit more work doing this with each Healer's mp regainer, but that would be welcome aswell. Aetherflow giving 20% mp along with Quickend Aetherflow and strategic use of ED could probably replace Lucid Dreaming.

    The Role Action system never sat well with me, as everyone ended up having the same setup until they let you have all 10 in SB and all it did was remove stuff that felt at home in certain jobs with WHM hit the hardest. It might've been a brave attempt to emulate the cross-class system they got rid off, but would rather see them them add back or make new quirks to the existing jobs. Like getting Brayflox in Roulette and realizing Leeches is level 40 so you need to use Selene to get rid of the poison.

    Was also fan of the cross-class system forcing you to play other classes for the skills, got some glimpses of how other roles played and got to know how they might be thinking when you do a dungeon with someone on it.

    I assume it's for simplicity of communication for new players so people don't get confused. People will tell them "you have to esuna that", nobody ever said "exalt my detriments" or "put leeches on me". We just call it esuna, so it makes sense for everyone's spell to be called esuna.

    I do miss having more uniqueness, though.

    It’s because they don’t want to keep making new animations for the same mandatory skill every time they release a new job. Instead of coming up with a new “Esuna” for the new healer they just get the role action esuna and the devs can focus on making unique skills for the job.

    Every healer needs esuna, every tank needs rampart, every tank needs provoke. No point wasting animations and skill names on a skill that already exists.

    Except the skill names and animations already exist. It’s a waste to not use them.

    And I think if people can understand that ‘Rez’ means Raise, Resurrection or Ascend, they can probably get their head around ‘Cleanse’ meaning Esuna, Leeches or Exalt.

    There will only ever be ONE more healer in the game’s lifetime, I can assure you that. It won’t be difficult to come up with one more version of Esuna.

    It's also a weak argument when you consider 3 out of the 4 tanks have a carbon copy of the same 2 minute cooldowns (Sentinel/Shadow Wall/Nebula) and they all have unique icons/animations. Remove the reflect on Vengeance and it'll be 4.

    I’m not saying the moves shouldn’t be reused, but If the moves were to come back I’d want them to come back as something new and unique, not just as copy paste esuna.

    Sentinel on tanks could absolutely be made a role action, so could raise on healers. Resurrection and veraise could stay as smn and rdm unique versions because not all casters can raise, but all healers will be able to.

    Then same as above vengeance, nebula, shadow wall/skin, bulwark, these moves could all come back as unique skills with their own effects. Then the homogenised base that all tanks and healers share could have a unique flavour built on top of it.

    Well Leeches was different, it interacted with Aetherflow from what I recall.
    Same could be done of the others.
    Exalted could restore MP.
    Esuna could speed up Lily generation by 5s or something.

    Leeches did not have any interaction with Aetherflow. It was Esuna with a different animation and acquired at level 40.

    I'd like this a lot. Scholar job icons, especially the ones taught by Eos/Selene were always green. I'm all for this. It already exists, why not?
