Old crafting items to be abolished.

First off, I just am returning(Well, 3 days ago..) after many months of not playing. I saw that they are removing TONS appon TONS of items. So, I wanted to ask... Whats going to happen to them in game? I thought at least that I could still use them until they were removed, but I am unsure.

Ex: Old iron ingot. Iron nugget x5 and fire crystal(I think), low armorsmith/blacksmith recipe.

Now, when I put it in.. they arn't available. So, that makes me curious.. What are they going to do with all these items? Am I going to be sitting on 11 stacks of 99 iron nuggets, to have to vendor them? I had planned to mass make them into ingots, but now I can't. Either I'm doing it wrong and am a fool, but the question still remains. What will come of the old items? Poof? Poof+given gil for their npc value? What will happen?

I don't know if this has been talked about in any patch things, or previous things, so please don't complain about "This has been answered".

NPC 'em for gil. Don't know if they'll just disappear, but if they're not going to be used ever again, clear your inventory now.

The answer depends slightly. I am unsure myself but I believe that 'Dated' items will be removed in some point in the future.
Items that are no longer used in recipes will not be physically removed, but they are absolutely useless and barring some oversight nothing else gives you them and you cannot create them any longer, so they exist and the only thing that can be done with them is selling them to NPCs.

if you want achievments, i suggest looking at what easy recipes you can make with them still, iron nuggets still have a small value in that


alot of people for instance are STILL grinding armoror to 50 on iron squares + buffalo straps, both of which are being removed cuz its a really easy recipe


they are all still useful, just not as a real money maker, try using them for personal use if possible

dated items wont be removed, but at some point they really wont exist anymore either as they all get vendored or materiad

It was answered but it a patchwork kind of way. There was never any good timeline given for when they were going to remove what items and recipes, its just been sort of done in random amounts each patch. They DID say all the old items and recipes would eventually be gone but they never defined what 'old' was until the patch notes came. Its been a bit of a mess. And the notes they did give are not linked together in any meaningful way nor or they remotely organized except in big wall of text.

Only items that got replaced have been removed. If you still have dated items you can make dated recipes for the achievement.

Thanks all for the replies! I'll probably try and use it all to skill up some more, and start to vendor a good bit of the other stuff to make space..

They can't just delete dated items, there would be 1000s of angry players logging into missing gear and armour.

I suppose they could do this if they gave everyone due notice, I think its much more likely they will just remove the recipes and hope that over the course of time they will be converted to materia.

Personally if I was SE/Yoshi-p I would remove the ability to sell dated items in the marketward it just makes the marketward search look like crap and takes twice as long to find the item you are looking for.

Plus if you can't sell the item there is less reason to make it.

Well the reason why they are named dated in the first place is because they couldn't add the materia concept to them. They may have just been able to name them normally if they didn't run into that issue but since they did they named them dated. because of that as time progresses they are banking on it going extinct since you can't attach anything to them the only reason why people would keep them is for how they look.
