So what do you do currently about changing jobs in the field? Avoid it? Use a glamour that suits both classes?

Right now the plate system isn't designed to help you share gear between classes. The situation in the field is still the same as it was when we only had prisms. But when you're in a town you have access to a second system that is far more efficient than manual prism application.

What it is very good at is storing a full costume of glamours ready for you to apply over your "ugly leveling gear" in one shot - no spending prisms, no carrying the gear with you, and no digging through menus to glamour your upgraded gear piece by piece. You can have your entire outfit glamoured in the time it would take to open the "apply glamour" menu.

It in large part is designed for that, but only works effectively in that regard for DoH (and only because that's commonly done in town anyway). You can assign different glamour plates to different jobs' gear sets and then whenever you switch between those jobs, it will automatically update your glamour to match, so you can have a different glamour for each job sharing that gear.

The problem is that it only does that if you're in town at the time. If you change jobs while out in the field, it will either leave you with the previous job's glamour (if it's compatible) or with the gear's default appearance (if you glamoured your previous job with AF that your new job can't use). Either one can be annoying enough that it's better not to set unique glamour per job if you expect out-of-town job changes to come up very often.
