well, yeah. the way the guy was talking it sounded like he thinks that the benefit of plates only works while in town. It's possible that isn't what he was saying too.

The benefit of the plates do only work in town because I cannot be out in the field, change jobs and have my glam change to w/e is on that plate. And lets face it, a lot of the default/top gear atm is u-g-l-y. I understand it stays until I change jobs again.

So if I can use plates while I change jobs in the field, which is the majority of the time I change jobs since I am out and about gathering and what not when my roulettes pop or I come across a hunt mob or yada yada yada, then why would I even bother using plates?

If you stand around in cities or your house all day you are fine, but if you are active and out and about playing the game, then they are pointless. I had to go back to the cities every time I changed jobs in ffxi and it was annoying. Having that be a thing in xiv, even for glam, is a really bad design choice, so I don't use it because its not worth using for me.
