We tank most everything with WARs now b/c PLD is well....... useless on most everything.

Then there you go, you've answered your own question. Since Pld is a defense-oriented job with little utility in parties, going gla is the only way to get a party right now, since you can set one up for damage; This is why they're not going to get rid of classes, they have more flexibility and can adapt better to evolving play styles.
