I'm in agreement with the vedis on this one, the base classes have more flexibility when it comes to solo play. Also, some classes might be preferred over jobs when it comes to leveling. For example, ppl in leveling parties want a tank that can handle groups of mobs rather than just one at a time, meaning they're more likely to pick a mrd/war over a Pld, who may have better defense, but fewer AoE hate tools. In that scenario, you would have to go gladiator w a DD setup just to level up. (I know a few people who leveled thier glas that way, including myself.) It'll probably stay that way until SE makes adjustments to jobs later down the line.

Then there you go, you've answered your own question. Since Pld is a defense-oriented job with little utility in parties, going gla is the only way to get a party right now, since you can set one up for damage; This is why they're not going to get rid of classes, they have more flexibility and can adapt better to evolving play styles.

both still have their places as is easily being proved by many

not all jobs can do their class perfectly and in different situation as Ifrit only PLD/WHM/WAR/ survive all the rest need double the work to have slim chance to survive the battle

BRD isnot better than ARC they CO-exist even in same party because the dps abilities u get from other classes will always better than the few buffs you can do

also one of the patch notes or letters said we will get class-specific gears at some point

BRD is a hell of a lot better than ARC and the only sad thing about its specialization is losing Keen Flurry. Either way, I destroy mobs on BRD and not as much on ARC. Additionally, with the accuracy nerfs that were introduced with this patch, I actually hurt when Minuet isn't used, especially as DRG.
