Is the White Mage job story enjoyable?

I've been trying to decide between White Mage and Scholar, and even though I like the overall aesthetic of Scholar a bit more I'm thinking I'll be going with White Mage because I prefer their reactionary style of healing. Shields have never really been my thing as a healer, I like fixing health bars. However, I've heard that the White Mage job storyline isn't really the best. That's nothing that will stop me from playing the class but I am just curious about it.

Imo it's one of the weakest story line, at least the 30-50 part.

I actually find them both to be rather mediocre. I will say however that Scholar's story was a complete snooze fest while White mage had some kind of...excitement? I don't know, go for the one that makes you feel good or something.

CNJ 1-30 is the only remotely interesting storyline. 30-50 isn't... terrible... but it isn't terribly interesting either. It's all downhill from there. The final 80 quest felt like an insult it was so awful.

I normally really prefer reactive healing also, but for some reason I ended up liking scholar better than white mage in this game. So, like, try both and don't rule anything out.

As for the quests...the white mage ones are definitely kind of boring. The 1-30 ones are okayish. I also didn't mind the 60-70 ones, but I think I'm the only one.

I found the scholar ones better because they have a lot of the Nym-vs-Mhach-vs-Amdapor history involved. But it may depend on how much you like lalafells, because basically every ten levels that questline gets a new potato with a new potato name. The astrologian ones were really good, though, just because of Leveva's attitude toward Jannequinard and Kyokuho.

Finally, thank you for posting this thread, because it reminded me I haven't done any of the 80 healer job quests.

Not gunna lie, the 80 quests in general are awful and some of the titles are even worse.

I've not done Scholar passed 54 but neither of the quests interested me, if I had to pick one though it would be White Mage.

Of all the 80 quests I've done so far, WHM is easily the worst by a wide margin. The rest have been mediocre but inoffensive. The 80 SCH quest was legit good and actually felt relevant and rewarding.

Someone wants me to be even more of a verbose windbag? MISSION ACCEPTED.

I guess the reason I've always preferred reactive healing is that I have a slow reaction time. So if the boss starts casting Big Damage Ability™, and I can either shield before it goes off or heal afterward, I figured afterward would be better. But in practice I found that scholar shields last a long time, and there's enough mana to just put them up whenever. So what actually happened with scholar is that I had more time to react, because instead of healing right before or right after the damage, I could heal any time before the damage. Plus my stress was lessened because the shields made the health bars stay higher. And if you do fall behind, scholar has some good emergency heals---resource-gated and less powerful than their WHM equivalents, but more flexible.

Of course, there was also the fact that I didn't like white mage lore that much. I swear if I'd seen any more rainbows and sunshine I'd have had to find a kitten somewhere and strangle it.

As for astrologian, if you were wondering---the healing feels very simple, but effective as long as you can manage mana properly. The complexity comes from the card minigame.

Basically, I'd say that for me, WHM feels like doing a simple task, SCH feels like doing a complicated task, and AST feels like juggling multiple simple tasks.
