Please bring back old leveling up and longer battles!

Soo, if you didn't play FFXIV when it was first released, to level up you had to skill up, to skill up you had to hit the mob(which makes more sense than what we have now.) The only thing wrong with it was that the battles were too short. Not everyone had time to get shots in on the mob. If they balanced it right, it would also make leveling a little longer(good thing). The rested exp would make more sense as well(at least to me). The other good thing is, you wouldn't be able to level up if you just sit afk/pl . Pling would be gone, it would most likely turn into the FFXI pl system which I didn't mind, because they didn't help in kill the mob, they just cured.

If you guys don't like that, I think they should get some type of "skill up" back in the game.

PLing would be gone. . . except it wouldn't?

Please name a few of the things that were wrong with it, you actually had to hit the mob to level up?

PLing as we know it would be gone, because we would have to hit the mob instead of just sitting there and letting the pl kill everything. The PL will most likely turn into a curing PL.

Oh yes, please make it like in FF II in which I've beaten myself to death all the time because it was way more effective than waiting for the scared baby Goblin to attack me..

    For real, don't.
    Although it was fun..

Okay, to give a serious answer:
If the system isn't bugged, it's actually really nice. My favorite MMO has it.
BUT. That's something to decide BEFORE a game is made.
The leveling system is basically one of the core mechanics of the game and everything else is worked around it.
FFXIV may get revamped a bit with 2.0, but breaking the core mechanics is pretty much the same as breaking the game.
So..no. While I would enjoy SE giving us this kind of level system in some future FF game, FFXIV is not the right place for it.

The skill cap was 500 for starters. There were no EXP chains. You want to stand there and attack something until your maximum skill value is attained? I'm sorry but mindlessly attacking the same mob for 5 minutes is not engaging or dynamic.

right now we get 1000+ exp a kill on a good party. With the longer fights and the skill ups you would get close to that a fight, there for, no need for exp chains. People have also stated they want longer more dynamic fights.

The biggest thing wrong was the obvious exploits and what ultimately led them to changing it. Don't you remember when they made the letter asking people who used buffs to gain xp to report it so their xp could be adjusted. Also you only got xp if you used sills from the correct class.

Then theres party play, you can completely be getting different numbers then your team mates and out lvl the party.

I remember killing some mobs and not getting any xp, i was like how the F does this work...

Also PL is PL, a 50 casting cure pretty much grants you invincibility. The only prob i have with PL is people don't learn the class. Both can be said for both types of PL.

i liked the old system way more then what we have now, the word hate is more of a word to use on the pl'ing right now. but the old system was a exp version of the campaign battles. you got what you put into it, you got points for doing your job and what you cast and dmg or heals. it only needed fixing ...not full change ..said this in a post or 2 before but not like they will change it back now. 15man crab parties were awesome, if people weren't getting exp back then it's cause too many of that class, or unequal level ranges. fighting to cure and what not so yes these needed fixing, but to hell did it need to turn into the mess we have now where everyone is afk while 1 person kills everything till they are in there 40's. it's bs. also i like the idea of longer fights, even in pvp games, the fights are too short i always say, make longer drawn out fights that are worth a little more. make it so the tides can change easier (pve too) enough of the 5second kills ...this is the system wow type games have where the only difference in every mob in the entire game is the graphics ..other then that they are just kill the same 1-3 ways. dps, mele heal, or nuke they are all the same crap ...just kill it with your few moves and done. though i do think this game will get better least for some mage classes when dispel comes, we already got ensuna!, but all in all they are probably separate classes so really not much. little off topic but all in the same lol. sry for rant i guess it turned into but tired of this all mmo companies are making dynamic-less mobs when it should be moving in the opposite direction, but heh i guess that is too much work to make every mob as good as fighting the 3bosses they have in the game.

Of course they would have to adjust it, but I leveled with my friends back in the day and we got pretty close to the same amount of exp, I might have not got exp on x mob, but on the next mob I did and he didn't.

Also, that's how it was like in FFXI the only thing would be the tank. Everyone else would still know how to do their job.

No thank you, they got rid of it for a reason. It will not be coming back.
