Are costing general players more money than they are actually capable of making from them and it’s kind of a bummer.
(Already have all the goodies from the maps, just crying for a friend.)

Really? I would expect that like SB you would be getting quite a bit of gil from it. More so if you won the items and sold them.
Why, are they buying the maps? Cause if the maps weren't in demand, they'd cost less, but a lot of people don't have gathering classes at the proper level yet to get them and they want to do maps for any possible rare items.
Please show support for chocobo boots to be added -> http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/323512-Suggestion-for-an-item-to-be-added-to-gold-saucer-Chocobo-Boots
Unhappy with how they implemented Mahjong? -> http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/381358-Mahjong-is-the-most-depressing-mini-game-you-ve-added-to-XIV
There is going to of course be a cost for not leveling a gathering class high enough to gather your own maps, and of course those that did will exact whatever cost they deem fit. It's how the free market works, SE has no control over that at all and as the poster above me said those mats sell for a lot when you get them. Maybe not the Indigo Cloth anymore but the leather that drops from there sells for quite a hefty price.
Time to learn to gather.
I still don't understand why gathering maps is limited for older content... At least let us gather a map for each expansion if it is going to be limited
I get one free every day ......
