I just found myself in this same predicament. Naturally, as most other noobs did, I went in solo and got my butt handed to me on a silver platter (Paladin quest). Unfortunately, it seems that according to OP and other people, even trying this with the recommended group will still likely end in failure. I can understand making the game a challenge, hell I embrace it. But having to level up well past the quest's requirements just to complete it is a little absurd in my opinion.
In the end I decided to try my luck finding help in town. Wasted an hour of my life shouting in Ul'dah for help without even a single response. This has been voiced in other threads I've read, but this game seems rather unforgiving towards new players. Aside from the somewhat steep learning curve (eg. game mechanics, etc) it appears incredibly difficult to find people to accompany/help you outside of a Linkshell.
Its amazing how many people just dont read....regardless:
Id love to be able to do my Job Quest as soon as i hit 30 with other lv30 people too. It would suck if it says "light party of lv 30+" and then actually isnt doable as a light party of lv 30 and i have to get high level help. -.-
I understand that they dont want to make it too easy for the peeps with lv 50 jobs but whats with new players who doesnt want to get pulled through everything? :/
I dont want to be pulled through and have that 100% save fight. I want to actually feel like i realy acomplished the Job Quest together with my Party not "ey that high level let it live a little so i can feel great and hit it once or twice too!". D:
I absolutely hate getting pulled through any content, that feels like playing a single player with god mode on all the time. For me that totaly destroys the purpose of playing.

no idea where those interview are, but yoshi said several times he wanted something really hard for the quests and he didn't want progession to be as easy as leveling up a job.This is what the patch notes say:
@Haydest
I don't think this thread has been all that elitist, though when you start getting into stuff like "lack of effort" I see that more as an apologist attitude toward grinding. Why should people have to grind 5 levels to have a shot at a quest they are given? Why not just lower it to level 30, or say the quest is level 35? So far the answer I've seen is something like "well now you have the CHOICE of getting someone to run you, or waiting. now you can meet people" What the hell? If you adjust it normally, I will still have those choices.
I don't think what I'm asking for is going to dumb down the game or anything. I'm not asking for welfare epics here or something, like I'm going to destroy this game for the hardcores. This is content that is designed for progression, but they artificially implement these frustrating level blockades that you have to grind through, or otherwise have someone run you thus nullify all challenge or gratifying experience with the content.
In this day and age, people are not going to pay to grind. Tons of games offer grind. For free. SE's goal with this is to "boost player growth and motivate players," and the reward is a nice carrot on a stick, but why bait and switch them saying its level 30 when it's 35.
I see two possible things happening with 2.0
1) They just have it this way right now because they are lacking content. I can understand that. Then by 2.0 they add more content and adjust it normally. Yay!
2) They actually think its cool to have 5+ level blockades. People make fun of FFXIV once again for these goofy hamfisted ideas. Less accessible to new players. Get's a 4.0 once again. (half joking, but seriously, they need to knock this out of the park)
@Rinaayo
I don't really think putting a level 35 elite level monster instead of a level 30 elite level monster constitutes thought. And considering the experience of most level 30's trying the content, I don't think they really thought this through at all, UNLESS they are trying to placate higher levels as well, then I can understand why they made it a little harder.
It's not that I am against having a 50 run people through stuff if they want to. I just think it's lame that I am pigeonholed into either grinding 5 levels because they artificially made the quest that hard, or getting someone to run me. For example Wicka tried it at level 30, had no chance, then their option was to grind or get run through it. People don't want to wait 5 levels before they can get what they thought they could get, so they just get run through it, destroying all sense of accomplishment. The flow of the game was fine up until this point.
tbh I was a bit disappointed when doing war's as war 50, but it all makes sense now. And now that I think about it, it wasn't even all that easy to solo as war 50.
Ill hope i find enough suicidal lv 30 people to try it. Its fine if its realy hard just the quest should state so not pretend to be "light party recommended". :3
He may have, but if that is conflicting with what is actually printed in the patch notes don't you think that is confusing to new people? Just like how saying that a quest is intended for a lvl 30 light party but only manageable for a group 35+? Nobody is saying things should be easier, but clearer. I have no problem trying to get a group together for these quests (and considering PLD is currently my first and only capped job, I didn't have much of a choice) but it would be nice if the descriptions weren't playing practical jokes on us.
