Pure healing will come from encounter design, not from job design. So long as I have a single dps button I will be pressing it whenever I don’t need to be pressing a healing button. And honestly, unless they completely overhaul all the content they’ve ever released, pure healing can never be a thing in ffxiv. Even if the new content requires pure healing, the old content never will.

Then allow me to say this: Unless the floor is fire and the healers have to constantly be GCD healing to keep the party alive throughout the entire encounter then pure healing is an impossible dream. Furthermore so long as healers can enter solo duties then pure healing is an impossible dream.

As an extra: pure healing is not for everyone, and pushing the game towards a pure healing only route will lead to there being even less healers then there already is. This is part of why WHM the highest DPS healer in the game currently is seeing the largest population of players. As it spends most of its time in dungeons doing DPS by holying everything down in pulls rather then actually healing, and in trials it just burst heals the party back up and resumes doing DPS. Pure healing is boring, people want to be and do something more then be the party HP battery.

100% this. I returned to WoW for BfA (Horrible idea) and I was actually told off for doing DPS and was like what, you just expect me to stand still and do nothing? That's boring!

If they ever wanted to truly make healers only heal then they would have to make mobs do a lot more damage and probably a lot of unavoidable AoE. Ain't never gunna happen. Oh and I have a friend who mains Scholar and literally doesn't DPS and trust me, you can REALLY tell. Both trash and bosses take so much longer to die when I play with her...
