PC freezes completely while playing game (happens very occasionally, but still...)

Ever since the patch 5.0 has been installed I have had a few instances where my game would freeze and my entire PC lock up as well.
I had to do a hard reset to gain control again. Nothing else responded.
Nothing else on my PC causes this and I checked for malware, virusses, corrupt files; everything is fine.
Is there something else I can try or is this a weird side-effect from the recent spike in players because of the expansion?
I am on Phoenix, which is now considered a congested world. Worth noting I suppose.

Do you notice any pattern to this? Does it only happen while doing certain actions?

Can you submit a Final Fantasy XIV system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'

It started happening ever since the big Shadowbringers expansion was installed.
I don't recall anything big that I personally changed. To my knowledge there was no big update for Windows or Steam around that same time; I keep a close eye on those.

So far I haven't found a pattern. I've had it happen once while inside Limsa, once while outside my house in Mist and once while inside a Duty (Halatali).
For Limsa I was walking.
For Mist I was standing still.
For Halatali I was casting magic as a White Mage.

Good morning and thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

Could you try updating the graphics drivers and disabling any overlays? If you have not done so already, please try doing a cleanboot. Open the task manager and select the 'Start Up' tan and disable everything on that menu. When that is done, please restart the PC.

However, I'm not quite sure how/where to update my graphic drivers? I checked Nvidia on my PC but couldn't locate where to update my drivers.
And with overlays, do you mean Steam? I don't use anything else while I play FF14.
I have already tried a cleanboot, but it didn't solve my issue.

And yes, Steam does have an overlay. If you use Steam, I'd suggest disabling the overlay for it.

Apparently my drivers were already up-to-date, but thank you for the link anyway. I've bookmarked it for future use.
I turned off the Steam overlay. Hopefully this solves the issue but I won't be sure until it happens again.
I will post in the thread (or make a new one) if my PC happens to freeze again while playing FF14. Hope not though!
