    picking a healer

So, to keep this simple and brief. Im trying to pick a healer to play for ShB, but having trouble deciding which.

I know a lot of the fire and brimstone over the changes to them this expansion and honestly can't blame them. I have played them over the course of the game since ARR. Though I have usually mained DPS this expansion I switched to tank as my main, I still try to play each role at current end game and just so i can genuinely help other players.

If any were able to help with unbiased review on them especially now as of 5.05 and help me pick one to go with that would be much appreciated. And if needed i can give more detail about my history with healing as far as xiv goes.

You should just play what you like the most.
All healers are competent to every level.

People are gonna say AST sucks, but its a viable option, yesterday I cleared E1S with a cohealer AST and we didnt had any issue healing the party (im a SCH)

Choose what you preffer and dont worry about which one is better, that depends on the player.

A lot of salt from the healer changes, whichever one you look at, will mostly be from people who miss the old versions.
This means that as someone just picking up a healer now, you're probably in the best place for them, you have no expectations.

With the potency and QoL buffs AST and to some extent SCH got yesterday, all three healers are fairly equal in terms of healing capability, although WHM is still DPS king, if you care about that.

Yeah, im not asking for best or Meta healer, i just want something without the fire and brimstone thrown around on how they play. I have touched all of them and some experience... its just i cant really get behind a single one and i rather not try and level all of them to 80 just to figure out what one i like best.

White Mage i did for 2.0 cause it was simple, not really fun but i didnt have to manage two characters like Scholar did. Plus it complemented my friend who plays Scholar, whom i regularly play with.
Scholar i have up mostly i has Summoner up, Scholar was a lot of busy between dots shields and fairy... not sure now though
Astrologian i enjoyed its asthetic, and the idea of drawing on the stars for healing, and even the RNG appealed to me to some extent.

Looking at that one would say play ast cause you enjoy it the most but in the wake of 5.0 none of them really feel fun... I was of the opinion Healers should focus on healing but at the same time maybe i just dont have the right mindset for healing.

“Healers should focus on their healing” is a great mindset right up until the point that further healing becomes redundant - this being the point at which no one is dying. I’m here for the healing, and I’d love it if the fights required more of it from me, but the current content doesn’t require me to heal all the time, and even if they change that in the future the older content will be there. That’s why it’s imoortant for healers to have an engaging (if not as powerful as a dps’s) offensive kit.

As the others have said, all the healers are okay at the moment. SCH in particular isn’t what it was, but if you’re looking at it with fresh eyes that shouldn’t matter (haven’t played new AST to cap so won’t comment on the changes there). One thing I will say is if you want to try them out, the deep dungeons are a good way to do that without levelling all the way. You’ll need to get your job stones for that, but apart from WHM that shouldn’t be a problem. The deep dungeons won’t exactly give you an idea of what it’s like to run regular content, but they will give you an idea of what will be in your kit when you get to higher levels (albeit not at 80).
