Either healers are combat medics who alternate heals and DPS. In which case, give them a proper rotation of some sort. Or they're healers meant to occasionally help out with damage. In that scenario, ramp up the outgoing damage and scale back on the sheer amount of options healers have. Basically, pick a dedicated focus and make it interesting. Instead of this half-arsed approach they've taken.
If they go with the former, they should rename the role off of "Healer" onto something else. Combat Medic, like you said, or Support, or anything... I'm tired of hearing "Healers should just Heal", when this is not how it works in FF14.

The former option would be a more drastic change and might require revising several years of past content, something that seems unlikely if dungeons and other lower-difficulty content are included... Unless all of that gets ignored, but I kinda doubt it would, with how Unreals and daily roulettes push you back to old content regularly.

When I saw this thread, and when I saw it growing that much, I didn't know what to think.

I almost only play WHM. But...

I didn't play during 5.xx because it started with spam-Holy, Lilies-random-lol, maybe other things I don't remember... and technical issues on PS4 Pro. I had no fun anymore so I just stopped.

I missed the game until I could give it a new chance. No more technical issues (PC), no more Lilies-random-lol... I stayed.
    Yet I miss Aero3.
Yet I miss (the true) Fluid Aura.
Yet it's still spam-Holy, with extra flavors.
Yet it's single attack spam otherwise.

The only reason I still play WHM is because I have an avatar that suits the "brainless wild animal" WHM has become. And because it's a role in need... giving the feeling I'm actually usefull.

To me, WHM is nothing more now that that "brainless wild animal" I still have fun to play with. So, just like I couldn't take it and left with 5.xx, I understand players who enjoyed their healer, enjoyed their gameplay and feel it was taken from them... with nothing left to enjoy instead.

I (still) like my WHM. But I must say that it is fun when others fail mechanics and have me DO MY JOB.

Without my avatar, I wouldn't play FFXIV anymore.

Having leveled Scholar (my first class) and Astro to 80, and my attempt to get WHM up, gave up at lvl 42 because of an abundance in supply of single pull tanks brought about by the new free trials frustrating me.

I'm done with healing till we get more robust dps rotations.

You know, WHM was the first job I leveled to 70 during Stormblood's life cycle. I loved the job despite being the weakest healer in the game at the time. However, I haven't touched WHM since early 5.0. It's so depressing to see WHM and all healers at this state. They deserve better than this, and SE knows it (but refuses to acknowledge it). Last night was the first time I saw my WHM again after looking at my job buttons. God I miss that job. I want to play it. I WANT TO. But until SE does something about the condition of the healers, I REFUSE to touch them. I'll play the game, but I'll only stick to Tanking and DPS.

Edit: There are... rumors that 5.4 will contain quality of life changes for all jobs. We all know Monk will get a rework in 5.4. I can only pray that all healers will get some changes that will benefit them. With 5.x coming to a close, and 6.0 coming out next year, I think it's time for SE to start experimenting and talk with the community again. It's a long shot, I know, but I know the developers still deeply care about their community despite their occasional failings and short comings. Hopefully, things will change for the better, starting at patch 5.4.

I love healing in games. I really do, and I've loved playing heals in FF14 since I first started, but when SHB came out all fun and intrest for me dropped almost completely. My main was Astro back in the good old HW even with all its issues I loved it. When the changes for 5.0 were told to us I was skeptical but remained optimistic. I was stupid.

5.0 came out and I hated everything. Not the story (pretty good, but has a issue here and there), not the music (probaly the best), but the feeling of classes. This expansion it feels as if everything was taken away from healers and nothing was given, and since I'm a.....I use to be a Astro main I lost basicly everything.

So I threw away the equipment I've had for it, and deleted the class entirely from my character to move on and play other things. Sadly over time my fun and intrest died even with the conclusion of this newer patch.

I think I will stay away and see what class changes the devs bring in 6.0. Sometimes it's best to back away from something you enjoy but hate a little more. Maybe they will bring back some actual gameplay/individuality, and more importantly some soul.

We can either Accpet this fate or Fight it, but we cannot deny it.....guess this is my acceptance.

I've healed since I started this game and it felt so fun when I was new, casting heals/abilities unnecessarily and didn't feel the stone/ruin/malefic spam. I got better and better at healing and noticed it more and more until it just bored me out of healing altogether. Took a long detour from the MSQ by leveling up Tank and DPS roles, just trying to find something that wasn't so repetitive. Had some fun with BLM, DNC, DRK, but missed healing so much and just went back to it.

I went from WHM and SCH to AST, purely because of the card system so that there was something else to keep me occupied during my one button rotation. I was okay with the current card system. After reading/hearing about what the old card system was like from long-time players, I miss it too.

My sub ran out recently and I'm going to take a long, long break from the game. I'm going to ignore all the patches from here on out and peek back when the new expansion comes out. I really hope Healers get some change to the current play-style of just casting one ability and a DoT occasionally.

I started playing AST at the beginning of Shadowbringers and had a lot of fun doing Eden savage with it. The Card system and the loads of depth in optimization really made the class worth investing time into. AST brought me all the way to clearing ultimate and I always loved playing it. Sadly the 5.3 Sleevedraw changes took most of its complexity away and made this class extremly boring. I tried getting into it but its simply not fun for me anymore. I guess I`ll just play monk or something for now.

SCH lost it's "complexity"... you mean...borrowing dots from other jobs to have some artificial "complexity"? Miasma and Bio were the only dots exclusive to ACN/SMN/SCH... the fact that you could "cross class" things was absolutely stupid. Having some jury rigged b.s. doesn't make something "complex" or "fun".

"Blizzard II was an instant cast aoe"... YOU HAVE THAT IN THE FORM OF ART OF WAR MY DUDE. Like...for real.

They got rid of Bane and gave that to SMN only... okay? That's only for dungeons honestly, in raids I can't see many times where you'd be able to do that, in shiva it doesn't matter, Ramuh's add isn't targetable, and E7s' adds are too far apart.

The complexity in healing has NEVER been the damage side, it has ALWAYS been in the healing side, and figuring out which tools to use when, so that you do not HAVE to gcd heal. That's the fun, planning out resources and seeing just how little you can get away with.

I mean if you just wanna be a cure bot or a physick bot, you can do that, but ppl will laugh at you for it. .

The hallmark of a good healer is one that manages their MP for emergencies, uses resources with a cohealer to share the healing burden so that both of them can dps. That's literally it.

It's like being mad that the complex side of tanking is in the management of your defensives and figuring out where to place them to help the healer, and dps stay alive with aoe mitigation contributions (you can 100 percent notice a huge difference with tanks that know what they are doing in savage, and those that don't).

"Sleeve draw killed astro's complexity in 5.3"... HOW?

Having three rng based cards that might not even give you want you need is good vs. having a guaranteed card seal that you need, when you need it? How is that bad? Like, all they really need to do is lower the CD to 2mins and call it a day. That's fine then. You can just arcana the other cards with 2 seals and just wait for SD to get the third one. How is that bad? Is it better to be frustrated that you didn't get what you needed from draw, redraw, and sleeve? You could legit just be bouncing between the two seals you already have with RNG.

    But that's ... fun?

    Okay.

I guess you people want to have the rng of 4.x back where you could get completely useless cards that are just royal road fodder, and leave your mp regen and mitigation to complete RNG where you can't even count on it being there when you need it...so it might as well not even exist...

    Hmm.

Well I've finally done it. I've "quit" healing. I'm raiding on my main on a DPS job, and all my gearing efforts are going towards said job - while my healers sit at i500 in last tier's gear.

Though I realize few if any may care, I still want to say what would bring me back. And, who knows, maybe there's a ghost of a chance others will agree and the devs might do something.

From all the feedback, I expect healer DPS to get a complexity boost next expac. It makes sense. If you spend hundreds of GCDs in a fight DPSing and just a few healing - if those hundreds mostly come back to one button press, that's pretty boring, right?

So make the part of the kit players spend the most time in more complex. It makes sense, and it's the easiest solution too.

That said, my problem is I didn't sign up to be a DPS. Oh don't get me wrong, I'll DPS during downtime.

But if my job is to DPS, I can do that as a proper red job, contribute far more, and competence in my play means a much bigger difference in beating the enrage check. And the kit is coherent. If you took a DPS job and say, gave it cure 2 and medica 2, that wouldn't be doing it any favors.

When I play healers - in any game - I want to heal. Well, that and buff and so on.

So if the future of healers is a trimmed down healing kit and expanded DPS kit, well - it makes a kind of sense and best wishes to those that will enjoy that gameplay, but I'll just be playing a proper DPS from then on.

Well, why do all games have to follow the same model? Now, if a game has a great idea, makes sense to use that as a starting point or copy it outright- however why play different games if they're all basically the same? I like healing in FFXIV precisely because I should be using my judgement to balance healing and DPS. If that means in some situations I'm doing much more DPS, throwing in buffs, and not much heals, I'm fine. Sometime , I need to heal more- also good.
