    Friendlist Confirmation + Mail System

While I'm much looking forward to the mailing system coming in 2.0, I'm a little concerned about whether there won't be any restrictions for who can send you messages or items.

Looking back at FFXI, only people who were on your friends list could send you mail, and in order for someone to be on your friends list, there had to be mutual confirmation from both parties. This effectively meant that no one could send you mail unless you were on each other's friends list. More to the point, spammers were unable to harass your mail box without your express permission.

In FFXIV though, there's no such confirmation for friends lists. Anyone could add you as a friend at any time without you knowing at all (which personally I find a little odd to begin with). This also means that with the current friends system, it can't be used as a filter for who can or can't send you mail.

So my concern is about what FFXIV will have in place (if anything) in order to prevent spammers from flooding your inbox. I imagine SE has a plan for this (I hope), but perhaps we can get a dev response for this in order to ease concerns?

This is actually something that had me concerned as soon as I saw FFXIV's friend list system back in beta, and with the mail system coming in 2.0, I felt this should be addressed.

So what does everyone else think about this?

Also, on a slightly related topic, I hope that trading and mail systems will have item limits that are more than 4. >_>

I agree. I don't like the idea of someone adding another person to their friend's list without the other person's knowledge. Call me overly cautious, but I think that could invite the potential for people to stalk other people. While I've never had this happen to me personally, I had a very good friend in XI who couldn't get rid of a stalker, eventually leading to her changing servers.

Again, maybe I'm overly cautious, but then again I am a woman. lol

The point is, I don't want spam in my mailbox. The black list would only be able to block spam after it's already happened. If I had to regularly black list everyone I didn't want mailing me that would be an issue. Instead, I think it's better if no one can send to your mail box until you confirm they're a friend.
