Because that service works well... For web pages. Not so much for games.
Easier said than done. There's no magical solution to ddoss attacks. Every site on the internet can be be taken down with it. There's not a lot of protection against it. Ddoss is similar to botting in the sense that any protective measure you design, people can circumvent it by simply changing some lines of code to alter its pattern.

Again, I'm not in-applying that a DDoS attack can be stopped completely, but there are measures that can be taken to lessen the attacks. If there weren't, how is Blizzard keeping them at bay most times? Just a simple thought.Easier said than done. There's no magical solution to ddoss attacks. But on this note, it looks like it not a DDoS attack after all.

It's not because thier defended against them, it's that thier game has gotten so bad noone bothers now.
Just updated:

Our investigation with ISPs revealed that these technical difficulties are being caused by a DDoS attack.
The announcement has been updated to reflect this and the time that the technical difficulties began.

Ugh. What's with these hackers? (if that's the right name for them) .

Alright, on behalf of everyone I'll concede and tell you what you want to hear: "SE is terrible, everyone should feel bad for sticking with them after DDoS, should quit, and go play WoW instead."
Everyone happy now? Can we move on?
For the record, yes WoW was DDoS'd a TON back in the day, but I'd wager the majority of the WWKS (WoW White Knight Society) were still wearing diapers during those days so you wouldn't remember. Isn't it an amazing coincidence that all these DDoS didn't happen pre-ShB? It's the newest expansion in any major MMO and also recently announced 16 million accounts. That currently puts that at #1 of the target list for DDoS script kiddies to get their jollies off at. It'll be this way for a while until the next "big thing" hits elsewhere.
Now you have two choices:
1) Take break, go outside, whatever.
2) Unsub, uninstall, go play something else.
Notice how "cry on the forums" was not an option? There's a reason for that, and if I have to explain it to you then you're beyond reason.
This is a bad explanation so someone should word it better.
A DDOS attack doesnt have to target SE servers specifically but can be against any link in the chain of connection to SE. SE cant do anything about ISPs being over loaded elsewhere that interupt their service. And tandom DDOS are common by botnets since they are most likely trying to packer flood so someone/some group can access information from companies, things kike billing, payment information etc.
It rarely has anything to do WoW some angry nerd.
