Its a pity that console players are stuck with the blunt combo sounds, when the ones from 5.0 and the trailer were clearly superior.
Did this question get ignored in the live letter?

The last time it was addressed they were like "Give the new sounds time! I'm sure you'll like them!". By the time that statement was issued, the new sounds had already been out far longer than the old ones ever were. Clearly they don't care.
unpopular opinion: neither set of sound effects is very good for GNB. The old ones are very tinny and empty, a blade that thick and heavy wouldn't have that metallic ring to it, it should be much lower pitched if it exists at all, and the newer ones with the THWACK sound less empty but are awful in their own way, especially that stock punch sound effect.
They had the gunblade sound effects perfect back in 1999... there's no reason they can't get this right 23 years later.
devil's advocate: weren't the original FF8 files like... lost in a fire or something?unpopular opinion: neither set of sound effects is very good for GNB. Alls I know is I like how RPR's 1-2-3 GCD actions sound like, iuno, a softer form of the OG GNB sounds.
