The fairy guage is actually alot more useful with ED being a thing because the fairy guage is essentially an extra (pet potency ofc) 400 potency healing attached to each aetherflow skill. Which effectively makes ED a (pet potency) 400 potency heal you can bank for later.
ED is a instant mini mana regen + atherflow dump + dps. The fairy gauge is used for 2 of our abilities. Since I use them both I don't find them useless at all.
Fey Union = Single target regen "400 Fairy Potency".
Fey Blessing = AE heal "350 Fairy Potency"
They largely fixed most of the complaints I had with AST, Sleeve Draw now draws for you which reduces all of the button presses required. Additionally, they detached Sleeve Draw from Draw completely, so there is no rush to push out all of the cards as fast as possible. The change from 180s to 120s on Divination makes the skill "feel" better to use, but the radius of the skill is still too small, particularly with the big areas for boss fights. I don't really think the CD change to Divination will bridge the gap between AST's rDPS and WHM's pDPS, there is literally no way that it will make up ~900 DPS. Hopefully, we will see some minor adjustments to either Divination or a slight increase to all of the individual card's percentages. I would have loved to see the old card system come back, but realistically I knew they were not going to walk back the changes. As for healing, AST seems like it is in a lot better place and I'm sure these changes made to the various healing skills will put it closer to SCH and WHM in terms of healing output.
After playing with these changes through various content, I feel like I'll probably stick with AST for the time being. While the cards are more or less a shadow of themselves, and I seriously have my doubts that AST's rDPS will bridge the gap with these changes, I still enjoy always having something to do. I really hope that the dev's re-evaluate every healer's DPS rotations down the line or at the very least fulfill their promise of increasing damage output because every expansion we keep losing complexity in our DPS rotation and healing downtime is starting to become incredibly painful. I haven't done savage yet and I'm really hoping for increased damage output, but realistically I know it's likely going to be the same song and dance as last expansion. Lastly, I think they should really involve more people from the healing community when considering changes to the role because the changes made this expansion really highlighted the fact that the developers have no idea what to do with healers.
I'm extremely glad for the changes but this is 100% true.
Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]
I wish that Energy Drain got an updated spell effect, it doesn't look like it fits with the new dps abilities.
Some people might not care ( or they just want to handwave others opinions away, because dear lawd forbid that people have opinions ), but Energy Drain isn't all that exciting to me as it is.
If I press a button I want to notice it and see it on the screen, I kinda almost don't with Energy Drain :P.
I appreciate it. I kind of wish they would give galvinize a higher % shield to get it closer or at the level of astro then what ever is left of the 250% go to the second shield that way we stay closer in the range of equal shield healing and only show our dominate shielding when we crit. That or let all shields stack like regen does. That would solve the disparity of having 2 scholars in a party since that combination tends to suffer more.On the surface, it does kinda look like that.
Adlo: 375 potency shield
Succor: 225 AoE
A. Benefic: 500
A. Helios: 250 AoE
Plus AST has Celestial Opposition for another 250 potency AoE shield.
(Intersection would be used in isolation in Diurnal so can't really be added to the list)
However, Scholar can do a lot more with its Shields via Tactics, spreading that Adlo to all party members, converting them into pure healing, plus it can garrantee a double shield for Adlo making it a 750 potency shield.
Then there's Excog, which is a sort of pseudo shield with a whopping 800 potency.
It would be intresting if energy drain was replaced with a aither flow ability that did aoe damage and healing. Make it weak enough to spam and not be too much more than asize or celestial op.I wish that Energy Drain got an updated spell effect, it doesn't look like it fits with the new dps abilities.

*Randomly waves to Erakir from the shadows* Glad to see you're still around. Was beginning to wonder if ya quit xD
