    Twinning 2nd Boss[Spoilers]

This boss is one of 5 bosses that is ripped from a previous final fantasy game to truly irk me (other 4 being the entirety of Sigmascape because there is no explanation, omega never went to ff6 world, no information on any retelling on the Source, they were literal poof ff6 bosses /minirant). The reason because this boss has very established lore within ffXIII universe of a magically gifted human(L'cie) failing to complete their task(focus) assigned to them by near god-like beings(Fal'cie), and i just don't see how ffxiv in any way connects to any of that.

This boss shouldn't exist as it does within ffxiv i think it needs more of an explanation because how on Earth this connects to Ironworks even in the far future is beyond me, the lore/battle design team usually seem to work incredibly well together giving nothing that seems too out of place but this feels like a large misstep and i hope to find out why such a being exists when by all accounts it cannot exist.

All of the new monsters we fight in the Twinning are from FFXIII, except the Tycoon and the Broilmaster mobs. We have previously seen FFXIII mechanical mobs being used in other Allagn dungeons before and in Azys Lla. It makes sense that their biomechanical monsters would look like the mobs from Cocoon.

We do also know that the Allagans played around with creating cloned Voidsent, and the 2nd boss in the Twinning shares a lot of similar visual design features with the 2nd boss from Eden which is a Voidsent. As it is, Voidsent are very comparable to Ce'ith. Both of them are corrupted lifeforms, so until we get more info, I'm assuming any Ce'ith mobs are a kind of Voidsent.

These things are just references to past games. Not 1 to 1 matches. The one exception may be Gilgamesh. The Omega and Shinryu we face for example are references to the recurring super bosses, but their stories are too self contained within FFXIV for them to be the 'same' shinryu/Omega from FF 5 or other games.

The Ultima Beast is a reference to FF VI's Atma/Ultima weapon but not the same creature for example. Quizecatol in the other 80 dungeon is not literally the same entity as the FF VIII GF. They're all (again with the possible exception of Greg) just references to past games, not bound to the lore and rules of the other FF games they come from.

I tried working with what i had to get as close to it

It is a L'cie open brand which means FFXIV and FFXIII are canon to each other now i am fine with bosses being cameos but as my OP suggest this boss has heavy lore implications to FFXIII so much so the conclusion above is the only way it is possible currently for this boss to exist, this feels like an oversight rather than intended, and would also mean Lightning didn't cross dimensions in the event but time instead.

Also if FFXIII is canon, Earth is canon to FFXIV since Lightning is a model in our world >_>

I really feel like its a stretch to assume that one boss with no lore attached to it at all means the games are connected. Occams Razor, the simplest solution is often the correct one, and sometimes a reference is just a reference. Fan service. Otherwise FF14 would be connected to damn near every FF game already.

Also, on the subject of Sigmascape, Omega was recreating powerful foes from stories about them, fact or fiction. The thing here is, Omega has been on the Source for a very long time, since at least the Allagans, possibly even earlier. It's very likely it had access to stories that have long faded from history. Just because Cid and Nero have no idea what stories they are from doesn't mean there's no stories about them in Omega's database.

There are very likely references to television shows in Final Fantasy 14 that, in turn, have either referenced or had crossover moments with an old television show known as St. Elsewhere. In the last five minutes of St. Elsewhere it's revealed that the entire show, which ran for 137 episodes over the course of six seasons and six years, took place in the mind of one autistic mental patient.

If we're to take the existence of Final Fantasy 13 references and reused assets in a single dungeon in Final Fantasy 14 as proof that the two games share their continuity, then we must also accept that the events of both games are not canon at all, as the only true canon to anything that references St. Elsewhere (directly or via any number of degrees of separation) are the last five minutes of that show.

Or maybe a reference is just a reference, and fanservice is just fanservice.
